shore trips for disabled
We'll take the "explorer SA tour with HAL in november 03.
I am very much overweight and can not walk but very short distances. Is there a way to visit places , particularly in Puerto Montt , Punta Arenas, Ushuaia, without walking?
I am not in a wheelchair, and I don't use a cane , etc , yet.
HAL labels their shore trips according to their physica difficulties; I am not sure how should I take them , due to my condition. Mia
Re: shore trips for disabled
In Puerto Montt I would take a tour that includes a drive primarily (to Fruitila, Puerto Varas, and perhaps to the Petrohue Falls. All to see the actual falls there is a bit of a rough walk, the drive there is lovely. There is shopping very close to the ship in Puerto Montt too...the best on the trip.
In Puento Areans I would also recommend a tour that is mostly a bus ride. Avoid the city tour. There is really nothing to see in town.
In Ushuaia plan to take a boat trip to see glaciers and penquins. You can get to the boat area very close to the pier. Town is hilling and cobblestoned, and not conducive to walking for anyone with difficulties.
On nearly all tours you have an option of staying on the bus instead of walking at each stop. The tour guide can provide you specific information as can the HAL shore excursion desk.
Re: Re: shore trips for disabled
Thank you for the most valuable info.Actually I read very carefully your notes on your SA cruise last year. They were so informative; you are a great planner! You took care of every single detail.
Can you advise; they have a catamaran boating; will it be hard for me (280 lbs) to board on and off that catamaran ?
Torrey Paines includes flight, etc. Could I make it? Thanks SO MUCH Mia
