The Rio-Santiago cruise on Amsterdam 0217-0307was beyond my wildest expectations.Weather was great (the lowest temperature was 46 F; strongest winds were force 4- very rare, highest waves 15 ft - 2 nights).Splendid visibility at Cape Horn and in the fjiords, calm waters. The ship is beautiful, clean and perfectly maintained.Food was gourmet, both in the restaurant and in the cafeteria. Service was great.Em/debatcations were fast and smooth, as scheduled.
What I liked less : entertainment . both in the theater and in the lounges, the on board activities as a whole. The land trips were tailored mostly for people with very limited physical abilities.
For the precruise stay in Rio we hired a guide/assistant/help that, among other splendid things, saved our cruise , be recovering the lost luggage (he is fluent in at least 4 languages and very familiar with lost luggage issues). He also arranged for us, in the high Carnival season a room with great ocean vue in Copacabana, at very resonable rate.
For the postcruise in Santiago, we rented a car and a condominium; it all worked great for us : 4 adults rented a Kia minivan and a 2bd/2ba condo in a very good area of Santiago for a total of $330 for 2 days.
