Default Do you need any shots to go on a South American cruise?

I was told that they now require the passengers to get shots before their cruise. Is this true?

thanks. Camelia

Yellow fever vaccinations and anti-malaria tablets are required for people travelling to the Amazon Basin.

It would be hard to generalize about the need for shots in South America as some places like the interior/Amazon River you might be exposed to a variety of exotic diseases. Some urban areas of Chile and Argentina are safer. MY suggestions: Contact the Cruise Line and www.cdc.gov (Centers for Disease Control and Provention in Atlanta, GA) CDC probably has the most current and reliable information. You might also contact the embassy for the countries that you plan to visit as sometimes the country might require certain innoculations in order to enter the country. Your family physician or local Public Health Office are also good sources. Best of luck to you and enjoy your travels wherever they might take you... Frank

Hi, best suggestion on previous post. Call your cruise line.
Don't depend on travel agent to have all information. Yellow
fever requirements vary depending on countries visited during
cruise. Have fun.

Check with your cruise line AND chec with your local health department. We live in Dallas and the County Health Department is always up to date and they have a special section for international travel. We just left there as we are going to Brazil. We decided to follow the advice of the Health Department and be more safe than sorry.
