Just did that in May. The cab fare is was about $25-30 from Hilton Hawaiian Village, Waikiki. It was worth it. Just pick up the cab right at your door, no waiting for a shuttle. Also, you avoid making several stops that shuttles would make along the way, and there's no baggage stacking on the bus since the cab is yours alone. The quickest, easiest way to go "door to door". It would be my choice again next time.

Can you explain a little more about the coupon? or can you remember the name of the service? There are 9 of us, and with luggage for 9 people for 2 weeks the van (or more likely 2 vans) sounds great. Any info is appreciated.

Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the service. It wasn't hard to find them in the coupon book though. There were many services offering discounted rates and we just called to check to see what size of vehicle we could get for our party.
At the hotels and even on the street corners in newspaper stands, you'll find coupon books. I found three different ones. These are about 8" high and about 4" wide, with many pages. Each page is one or more coupons for about everything you can think of. I brought a sample of each home, but have since discarded them.
The service that picked us up sent a large shuttle bus, not a van, but a shuttle bus like you'd see at major airport parking lots. There were six of us, and for the size of the bus, it could as easily have been 20 without a problem.
Look for these books as soon as you get to a hotel. They were in the lobby, at the desk used by the hotel porters, on street corners, everywhere. You can't miss them.
