We have a 3 day add on to the end of our cruise and plan on seeing the sights on Oahu. I'm wondering if anyone has taken the USS Missouri tour at Pearl Harbor. They have an Explorer Tour that takes you to the engine rooms, fire rooms etc. I am wondering if it is worth the extra money. Any comments?
Thanks for any replies.
If you are into engine rooms, go for it, If not , the topside tour is quite interesting and the view back at the memorial is great.
Check out a full day at the Polynesian Cultural Center . Best deal is the Ambassador package. Includes all day guided tour in a small group, a number of gifts and souvenirs, the Lua for dinner and their spectacular polynesian show afterward with program and pinapple icecream "desert". This is a whole day and night but a great experience.
If you are there on Wednesday go out to Aloha Stadium to the flea market for you souvenirs. They will be one third the cost of elsewhere.
Try my two favorate restaurants. Crouching Lion. Way out on the northeast coast. Giant portions, great food, reasonable prices.
Hau Tree Lanai- Located in the New Otani Hotel (first hotel past the Zoo right on Waikali
beach as you walk towards Diamond Head). Outside , right on the beach, great view of the sunset on Waikaki, setting is under the Hau trees with Tiki torches and twinkle lights. Great Mai Tai's good food, abundant quantity. Not cheap, but reasonable by prices for Hawaii.
We were in Hawaii for two weeks in Jan/Feb this year. We did the Explorer tour of the Missouri and, yes, it's worth the money. You are given a hard hat, a flashlight and a bottle of water before the tour. Knowledgeable guides take you to places in the ship that are off limits to others and provide you with a great history of the ship. It is hot and dark in some places and you just might be glad you were wearing the hardhat, too. Everything they have given you will come in handy. You get to keep the red/white/blue neck strap that is used to carry the water bottle. You also get a "ship's passport" where you can stamp each place you visit on the ship.
In 2002 we toured the ship on our own but elected the tour this time and we are glad we did. You can tour the rest of the ship on your own afterward.
