Default Hawaii for children

Is there a lot for kids to do in Hawaii? I have a 7 yr old boy that loves rain forest hikes, beaches and animal adventures. (He has 10 cruises under his belt.) I seem to have a perception that the waters are too rough and other than rain forests there may not be much else to do. What do you think?

Also what is a good ship that does Hawaii that's fun for kids?

Is spring break crazy in Hawaii?

Ouahu, has a great Zoo, an Aquarium , a Sealand( Whale show) and a great hike up Diamond head( volcano). Waikki beach is not too rough at all, our kids were much younger than yours and loved it, also go to Hanauma Bay, snorkle there( or just stand in the water and fish will come up to you to feed) , no surf there at all.
The Polynesion Cultural Center is also great for kids, it;s like a living museum village that showcases all the different islands and south pacific peoples and cultures, with live people in traditional dress doing traditional crafts etc. fire dances, hula etc.
Kaui does have one beach that is not too rough, Poipu area, sorry forgot name, the ship will let you know which beaches are too rough. There is also a " grand canyon of Hawaii" I have forgotten name. Kaui is truly one of the most beautiful islands,The Napali coast line is spectacular.
Havn't done any other island.
All islands do have " rough " beaches , with dangerous surf, but all the islands do have some safe family beaches, ask locals or ship personal.
Our kids loved Hawaii, we have taken them twice( we have been five) times for land trips and they love and beg to go back!
PS YES spring break is busy in Hawaii, but then it can be busy year round!

You have been given some excellent advice above, I can second most of it.

Oahu additional alternative beaches, Waikaki almost never gets "rough" as waves break off shore. On the west coast , out by the JW Marriott Iliani, there are several public beaches that are actully manmade coves (as is the Marriott's beach). There are never waves , just like big swimming pools. Additional Oahu activities might include the Submarine musem next to Pearl Harbor , The battle ship Missouri, and Pearl Harbor itself. The Zoo in Honolulu . Watching the surfing on the north shore.
Maui has great beaches in virtually all it's tourist areas , most have shelterd swimming along their length. Haliakala Volcano might facinate a young one as will the Maui Ocean Center. A very worthwhile afternoon can be spent here. Maui plantation and Iao Valley might even be a choice. Whalers Museum out near Kanapali.
Beach on Kuai is Poipu Beach. Travel Channel rates it number one family beach in the world. Waimea Canyon, Waillou River and Falls might also be interesting for a youngster.
There is a nice family beach just outside Kona on the big island . Lava Tree State Park might be interesting on the Big Island as would either of the volcanos.
