we have booked the 30 day cruise from LA to Sydney but were unable to get a balcony or an outside stateroom is the ship fully booked? we booked back in April as well! Staying on the Queen Mary at Long Beach for a couple of days pre cruise..can anybody tell me how far this is from the cruise terminal! Less than 3 weeks to go...can't wait........
The Queen Mary is close to the Carnival terminal (Long Beach) but about 8 miles from the other port (San Pedro) which is used by most of the other cruise lines. Princess occasionally uses the Long Beach port, but usually uses San Pedro. I hope you are not disappointed in the Queen Mary...the cabins are shabby and quite small. I would recommend staying elsewhere ( closer to your port) and then just taking the tour on the Queen Mary. The Sheraton in San Pedro is often recommended. You can visit Ports of Call village (shops, etc.) easily from there as well as the very interesting Maritime Museum. Long Beach has a good aquarium though, so you could do that easily if you are in Long Beach or remain on the Queen Mary.
We took a 20 day San Francisco to Sydney cruise in 2000 (Crystal Harmony). What ports do you have? We did not have a balcony, but spend so little time in our cabin normally we did not miss it.
thanks for the reply KLD. looks like we are staying in those shabby small cabins on the QM as I booked them months ago! It'll make the Sapphire more appealing though! Our itinery is..Ensenarda-Hilo-Lahaina-Honolulu-Bora Bora-Moorea-Papeete-Apia-Aukland-Tauranga-Wellington and Sydney. If there are any "must do" things along the way I would be much obliged for any info. Thanks
