Default Honolulu port to Waikiki--best way

We are taking a ship's excursions in the early part of the day that will cover some of the historic sites & the Arizona. In the afternoon we would like to go to Waikiki area to shop, see hotels & eventually have dinner at Dukes. Thought the trolley would be nice but it is $25 per person & is really more of a sightseeing trip... How easy would it be to take a bus to Waikiki or should we take cabs both ways?. How much would that be & how easy to get them---don't want to miss the ship whihc sails at 11 pm...

hcat,
When we cruised from Hawaii, the ship was docked right there in Waikiki. We took the bus, ironically known there as "The Bus" all around the island for $2/pp. I think that included 1 transfer. We got of at the Dole Pineapple factory for an hour or so. You can take the down to Dukes for dinner. We enjoyed a nice meal there but it was very noisy. You might enjoy a nice quiet dinner at one of the hotels on the beach. Enjoy.

so maybe Dukes would be good for a drink--what would you suggest for a quieter dinner? casual & not exotic food!

The House without a Key at the Halekulani Hotel is fabulous. We go there whenever we're in Oahu (live on the Big Island).

Definitely The Bus is the easiest and cheapest way to get about.
