Default Luau's in Oahu

We will be on RCCL's Radiance in May and Oahu is the only port that we will be at until late in the evening. We want to do a luau while there but because of distance from ship we are not sure which one. I have read great things about Germaines luau but it is about and hours drive from the port. The Royal Hawaiian is alot closer but alot more expensive. Does anyone have any advice?

Well... taxis are expensive in Honolulu, so if you are going an hour away from the ship that is a LONG way. You can rent a car but that takes some time, $ and trouble. I guess Im a little confused about the attraction of seeing "a luau" when it is really just a party with food & entertainment. I am sure the ship will have a "free" luau at least one night you are onboard with hula dancers, roast pig, poi etc....

a group that met on the boards got together & got a group rate--I think it's a luau at the Royal hawaiin--one of the major hotels at Waikiki--that would be closer & easier to get to...Maybe you can find that one & share a cab with someone from your ship

Paul is abolutely right! Generally the food quality is not great and the traffic is terrible around Honolulu. Find yourself an excellent restaurant with dinner at sunset and you will have a memorable evening.

germaines will pick you up from hotels...just find one close to ship and you can be picked and dropped off...we went into waikiki then got picked up at hawaiian village to start luau then after luau take cab or bus back to ship

Germaines is great, We did that one when on a land vacation in Oahu.

They have a coach bus that will pick you up at the hotels on the strip in Honolulu and brings you back. I don't remember what time the bus gets back in the evening. I have to check because we want to do this as well on our Radiance Cruise this September.

I will try to find out and post a response.

Just was looking on the Germaines Luau website: http://www.oahu-hawaii-luau.com/

The buses leave from Honolulu area around 4pm and depart back to Honolulu at 9pm from the Luau site, you should be back by 10-10:15pm.
