Where should we snorkel?

We are on the Pride of Hawaii Feb 12. We are looking for some good snorkeling. Can anybody tell us where we will see the best scenery under water, ie: marine life, fish etc.

The couple we are going with has never been snorkeling and we want to make sure it is a memorable trip.

Ray: In Lahaina, Maui, try Black Rock in front of the Sheraton resort in Kaanapali and Kahekili Beach Park off of Kai Ala Drive (just up the street from Black Rock). Both sites are relatively close to the Lahaina pier (I'm assuming you're tendering there) and provide great snorkeling for those with limited experience. In Kona (big island), try Kahalu'u Beach Park. Again, this site is close to the Kona tendering area and excellent for novice snorkelers. At Kahalu'u, you're almost guaranteed spotting turtles. I go snorkeling in Maui everytime. Don't snorkel in Lahaina town. The water is murky from the harbor. Go just north to Black Rock or up to Honolua Bay. It's worth renting a car. Also south to Wailea area is amazing too. I've actually been surrounded by 20 spinner dolphins while snorkeling there!

Go to a local snorkel shop and get a map. Most give them out for free. Or go to the Maui Information Guide for a snorkel map and choose the best spots. I also hear that the Olowalu area has a lot of sharks, so stay away from there unless you're adventurous. Aloha!
