Hawaii shore excursions

My wife and I will be IN Hawaii for the July 4 cruise on Pride of America. We're having a difficult time deciding on which shore excursions to take. Any suggestions or any excursions to to stay away from??

Kinda depends what you want to do. What islands. How long on each one? www.donnbeb.com/cruise <---- you can see what we did in 07 and are going again in 2 weeks. But that is a pacific R/T.

We've got plenty of ideas on shore excursions for families to do with their kids/tweens/teens. Many of these can be done independently so that you can keep costs down. Here are details: Family Cruises in Hawaii; CruiseMates Guide

I'll be cruising Hawaii in a couple weeks - you can follow what we do and see if it is something you might want to do.

Thanks for the insight. We just got back from our cruise and we booked our Maui snorkeling trip with Hawaii Cruise Excursions and Tours Guide for Tours on the Islands of Oahu, Maui Big Island and Kauai Hawaii. The online help was really helpful as I always seem to have a million questions i need ansered before i can make a decision. Really glad we took this tour. We also went to a luau that we found through the same company. We had front row seats for $80 per person. Without a doubt, it was the best price we found, and the show was really impressive. Loved the kahlua pork and the fresh fruit smoothies. Not a big fan of poi though, guess it's an aquired taste!

Did you take the Oahu tour that is listed on their site? There is one for 4 hours and one for 6 hours. Any idea which is better? We can also do Pearl Harbor on with either of these tours? How long does Pearl Harbor take?

The more searching i have done, the more i realized how hard it is to find tours that work with our ships itinerary, so i went back to Hawaii Cruise Excursions and they have tours to match our port times. I have booked our Kauai tour with them and a helicopter doors off for the volcanoes and im looking at a snorkeling tour they have in Kona. From all my searching, this seems to be the best site ive found for our tours.

Taste of Maui

Our favorite tour was with Hawaii Cruise Excursions for the Taste of Maui tour.
We were on Carnival Miracle and booked this tour for our day in Maui, and it was absolutely fantastic. It was an island tour, wine tasting, sightseeing, picnic lunch, tastings at the lavender farm...it was fabulous! Great excursion.

Absolutely no place on earth like Hawaii, I surfed for the first time here, participated in a Hawaiian Luau and soaked up the sun at the beaches. We chose a Hawaiian cruise with Carnival Cruise Line, rightly dubbed as The Fun Ships. A 16 Day Hawaii from Los Angeles, CA cruise cost us close to $1000 per person but there was a whole lot in store on the cruise, including award winning stage shows, beautiful destinations including Maui (Kahului), Hilo, Kona and Honolulu. We had an awesome time.

We spent 3 weeks in Hawaii and did the 7-night Pride of America cruise. We rented a car in each port and did what we wanted to do, when we wanted to do it, and where we wanted to do it for a whole lot less cheaper than what the cruise line charges for excursions. Plus, we went places they don't go and got to eat where we wanted to eat. It was so much nicer doing our own thing than paying way too much for shore excursions. In one port, we rented a care for the day for $25! And in another port (Hilo), they upgraded us to a brand new Mustang convertible!! And we only paid $35!

Definitely a much better way to go! Just have to make sure you shop around and pre-reserve cars as in some ports they'll sell out. At each port, they picked us up and dropped us off without any problems.

And one other note, in Kona, all the car rental agencies are at the airport, so it's expensive to take a taxi roundtrip. The only car rental company near the port is Thrifty.

When my wife and I did our 7 day Hawaii cruise, we used findmyexcursion.com for our shore excursions. They were typically way cheaper than the ones listed onboard and offered port pickup/drop off.

There are several very good reputable excursion companies and all pretty much offer the same things and all are better, cheaper, and a lot less crowded than what the cruise line offers.

If you really want to do a pre-packaged shore excursion, definitely shop around and find one that fits your needs.
