Mount Kilauea night sail past

Have read in various places that the volcano is not as active as it was and the sail past is not that spectacular.
Anyone done it recently who can tell me what it is like now?

We sailed by in October 2008 and thought it looked like a burned out charcoal campfire. We were quite a ways offshore. They played it up so much we felt we had to go up on deck to see it but it was disappointing and quite chilly!
