Both the Oosterdam and the Sapphire Princess are having to add another day at sea getting to Hawaii this week. Down to 3 ports instead of 4. Hilo got the chop. That would be soooo disappointing of only having 3 ports out of 14 days.

Yes it would be...on the other hand, being on a cruise would be great.
Well normally yes. But..they're now on their 5th day of extremely rough seas. My girlfriend is on board and as much as she loves sea days has completely had enough.

I remember crossing the Pacific in very rough seas and we did not enjoy it at all.
At least we were not paying to cruise, we were getting a ride on a US Navy ship.

I feel really bad for her, it's their first trip to Hawaii.
I do too, we have discussed previously whether to spend so much time cruising to the islands. I like sea days but if that happened to me - I would be gutted.
On Hawaii, I have just seen the movie Descendants which as you know features 2 of the islands - it has so put me off Hawaii.
At least she still gets to go. I specifically booked a cruise to progresso, mexico to see the pyramids and we went to key west instead(hurricane detour). Talk about a bummer.

Beaches looked ok but Big Island looked too built up.
Curiosity will get me there one day - not by cruise ship though - just trying to break up the flight into manageable sectors.
I have cruised to Hawaii and have also been there on a land vacation. I enjoyed both experiences, and Hawaii is one of my favorite destinations.
I preffered the land vacation because there was not enough time on the Islands during the cruise.

I have lived in Hawaii several times. Never before have I heard "too built up" and "Big Island" in the same sentence.
The Big Island, also known as Hawaii County, is 4,000 square miles, and growing. That's twice the size of the US State of Delaware. They have only two places that anyone would call a city; Kona and Hilo. Kona has 30,000 inhabitants and Hilo has 40,000. Most of the rest of the island is a National Park, with a few beach houses and small communities along a few coasts. A large part of the island doesn't even have roads.
Are you sure we are talking about the same island?
