Default what about purses?

I am going on my first cruise in July on the Noordam and was wondering about carrying your "stuff" around. Do you carry an evening bag? What about on shore, just a tote? or a real purse?

We are also going on our first cruise to Alaska in June. We have decided on fanny packs for port excursions, along with a small daypack. The daypack will be for purchases, or if we have a jacket and get too hot, we can stuff our jackets in them instead of carrying them around. Would also be good to have if you want to take a snack with you. As for an evening bag that is up to you. I might use one just to keep the sea pass, and some lipstick in, however if you or your significant other has pockets, you could do without it.

I carried a small bag with just my sail and sign card, some cash in case I stopped in at the casino and my lipstick. I never needed anything else.

The bag I carry to get to the cruise, takes a rest, and I go into a smaller bag mode for the cruise....The bag you take to the pool, can also be used in port, to consolidate things...the little evening bag, is just that, it could never hold all my daytime goodies Enjoy every second of your cruise!

For the ship...I have several tiny purses that hold my sea pass and a lip stick.

For the various Ports...we take a small backpack, (for our water and snacks) I have a small purse and also a small 2" bag that I can pop in my purse and then when I need a tote, this 2" little bag opens into a very nice size tote! Perfect!!!! It's my favorite travel buy.

As for fanny packs...there not for me...don't need the extra waist weight.

I do not bring a handbag on cruises.
Fanny or hip pack- to carry day essential items on ship and shore
small backpack or beach tote for pool & shore excursions.
1 small dressy evening bag for formal nights
1 small neutral casual evening bag for all other nights.

Default What about Purses?

Good question! I don't bring a "regular" bag on a cruise. I put a small bag just large enough to hold glasses, lipstick, and my cruise card in my carry-on tote. That also doubles as a casual night bag. In my luggage I pack one small evening bag. For the Cruise of the Century, I might add a tote.

Fanny packs work great for shore excursions or a beach day, leave the big purse onboard.

I use a fanny pack during the day for shore excursion and a small black evening purse for on board at night.

I also use a security wallet that I can tuck under my clothing for in ports. Carry copies of ID'ds, 1 extra credit card and some $...just in case.

I carry a smallish purse during day on board. Need to carry glasses, medication, kleenix, cigarretes/lighter, plus must be able to put a book in. This way I don't need to go back to room if I need anything. For Formal nights a nice small bag.

For ports I carry a tote that I can put my things in plus purchases.

I've been carrying a backpack purse ever since I went back to school a few years ago. It's a black leather Liz Clairborne -- about $40, I think -- and still looks good. The straps zip up to become a single shoulder strap when convenient. It has several compartments -- the one where I keep my wallet is next to my back when I wear it. I love having my hands free and it's not so big or heavy that it bothers me on my back.

On the cruise, I carried that bag on excursions. I wore my Sail & Sea card on a lanyard while on the ship. For formal evenings, Mr. Longhorn carried the Sail & Sea card and my lipstick in his pocket.

I use a small back pack for stuff and water on shore excursions. On the ship I don't really use a purse during the day. At night I have a weakness for sparkly purses! I love my bags and shoes. They are the right size for my lipstick, room key, and sail card.

Default Carrying a Purse

Excuse me for horning in on this conversation, but as a man, I just have to ask......When you see Queen Elizabeth of England in public, she is always carrying a purse. Also, when Margaret Thatcher was PM, she was carrying a purse when someone called on her at Number 10 Downing Street. My question is, what the H*** do these women carry in their purses, especially Mrs. Thatcher in her home! Wouldn't the Queen have some lacky to carry the things she needs?

Default response to pootersdad!

My mother was a bit old fashioned and it stuck with me. Your shoes have to match your bag and you ALWAYS need a little lipstick with you at ALL times! I swear, if I told my mother that I was dying she would have said, "that's ok dear, put on a little lipstick and take 2 Bufferin and you'll feel better!" I guess she was in good company with royalty!

My day hand bags are just a cheap tote. If I take an expensive looking one I might get robbed. Then on board I like to show off my gucci, Chanel, L Vuitton. At night or to the casino I like the dressier, sparkle tiny bags. Never do I take them to go grocery shopping.
