Default How many men bring sports jackets for the informal night?

I didn't pack a sports jacket for hubby just a dark suit for formal nights and realized I should have packed one.

The specialty restaurant on Celebrity wouldn't let him in without a jacket.

Who else wears sports jackets on the informal nights?

My DH brought a sport jacket with him and wore it on informal nights. He seemed to fit right in.

With the advent of alternative restaurants I now pack a sports jacket. I also pack one for cruise lines such as Celebrity and HAL that informal nights.

Take care,
Mike

I do, when cruising on Celebiry, because Celebrity's definition of "informal" requires a sport coat.

What can I asy? Now you know, so next time either you will bring it or you will cruise on a different line.

Default How Many Men Bring Sports Jackets for an Informal Night?

My DH always brings a blazer for informal nights, if by "informal," you mean "semi formal." Casual is like the first and lsat nights: polo shirts and slacks, yes?

Thanks for providing the information. My travel agent insists that even my dad, who is now 79, is not old enough to cruise on Holland America Lines yet.

No, "informal" is less dressy than "semiformal" but more dressy than "casual." The "semiformal" dress standard requires normal business dress -- that is, a business suit (with a dress shirt and a necktie) for gentlemen, though a sport coat and dress slacks worn with a dress shirt and a necktie has become acceptable in recent decades. The "informal" standard historically meant a sport coat, slacks, dress shirt, and tie, but the advent of the turtleneck as a substitute for the dress shirt and necktie made the necktie optional. Thus, "informal" now means a shirt with a collar, slacks, and a sport coat.

Casual is like the first and lsat nights: polo shirts and slacks, yes?

Yes. Basically. "casual" evening dress requires a shirt with a collar, such as a polo shirt or a sport shirt, and slacks for gentlemen.

Norm.
