Default Surprised -- pleasantly or otherwise?

When you cruised the first time, or when you cruised on a specific line for the first time, were you surprised at what the other pax were wearing?

The first time I cruised was when my kids were small. We went on a Premier Cruise when it was affiliated with Disney.
Since there were no message boards back then, I just went with what the docs said as far as dressing.
We had a 4-night trip to Nassau and the private island, as I recall.
It was late March.

I was surprised at all the glitz and glamour of some of my fellow pax.
It seemed they spent thousands on their wardrobes, and I was just blwon away!
And on the formal night, I was surprised at all the velvet dresses and New Year's Eve-type spangles and sequins.
I guess I was thinking Caribbean cruise = soft pastels or vibrant summer colors!

The first time I cruised on HAL, I had the luxury of reading about the line for many months on various message boards.
I had an image of what my fellow pax would dress like, based on what I read.
In reality, it was not quite so elegant. I saw jeans in the dining room on casual night, too! That was about 3 years ago.
I got a chuckle then, and on cruises since then, when the reality does not match the expectations set by some people who post on message boards!
*~* It's a jungle out there kiddies! Have a very fruitful day.*~*

Default Surprised Pleasantly or Otherwise

The most elegant clothes I remember seeing were on our first cruise. It was a New Years Eve cruise. The gowns were lovely and the jewels eye popping.

Also saw some very elegant dresses on the Grand Princess transatlantic crossing a few years ago.
