Default American manicure and hand sanitizer

I don't ordinarily get an American manicure with my acrylic nails but I've been on that jag for a month or so this summer. On the Pearl we used hand sanitizer all the time and after a few days I noticed my clear nail polish had become quite yellow. The only thing I can attribute it to is the sanitizer. Couldn't wait to get some colored polish on my yellow talons.

Any others have this happen?

Do you remember French manicures, where the nail bed is natural or pinkish and the tip is white? Well American is kinda the same thing but the tip is more of a natural color rather than white.

I've had this problem when I had a acrylic nails with painted on "french manicure". I now use "pink and whites" and the nail does not turn when old or when you use a lot of chemicals (I'm a germaphobic). You might consider this slightly more expensive option if you prefer a more natural looking nail.

Magnolia, the sun will yellow your clear polish too. And I don't know if anybody else noticed this, but sunscreen will take the shine right off any nail polish, and leave your nails all sticky and dull. I sunscreen up to 20 kids, twice a day, at daycare, and I wear latex gloves to do it, because I can't do a manicure every single day!

Hmmmm... if sunscreen can remove nail polish, what on earth is it doing to our skin? !

Yep, i hate it when my nails get all goopy from sunscreen, but insect repellant does it even worse!!! Years ago I had tried the clear or american nails and always had the yellowing problem but my tech told me the new type of nails and polish don't do that. I have worn them all summer (and I'm in the garden alot, so lots of sun exposure) without problem. But on Alaska they got that yucky yellow and the only thing I could attribute it to was the sanitizer.

We leave in a few weeks for the Mditeranean and I'm going to revert to my old "Dusk Over Cairo)" this time.

The sea salt air may have to do with the change in coloration of your nails, not hand sanitizer.

I was going to guess chlorine, myself. Could be a reaction with the top coat. Have you tried looking it up online to see what the cause is?

Tanning booths will do it too.
