Yes, it can change chemically. Depends on what is in it.
Since I rarely use it, part of per-cruise prep is making sure that what I'm taking hasn't changed into something that my dog would roll in.

yes, perfume can go bad; the better quality perfume may last for around 3 years and then you can start to notice the change.

A while back I inherited all my grandmother's perfume collection; she bought good stuff and never used, but all the bottles had been opened/seal broke and unfortunately, even the White Shoulders, Boucherat and other good ones are all unwearable; the white shoulders actually turned an odd color inside the bottle.

There used to be a great summer cologne called New West...smelled like melons, and was wildly popular but, they stopped making it..

I found someone selling it on Ebay, and while I was bidding on it, I was saying this is going to smell like vinegar.....and it did....I did get a refuns, but I SHOULD have followed my gut.....it was dead on!

Yes in deedy perfume can and will renege on you if old. I will purchase one or two bottles of decent perfume at a time. My body chemistry does not allow me to wear cologne----regardless of the brand, all cologne smells like 3 day old mowed grass once it hits my body.

I whole heartedly agree with ya James - it has been years since something new has come out that I say oh I have to have that!

I got out of the habit wearing it every day when I worked in a large law firm; as some clients and a few co-workers had allergies it was just best not to wear any -

Trip: I was so excited when I got all that perfume from my granny and started sniffing it and you are right - smelt like Vinegar gone bad! Let's face it they are not manufacturing perfume to last years; not good for their bottom line

SeaTeach: I don't know if its just you or just us; lot of the new stuff comign out smells like day old mowed grass to me - when we get the Macy's catalog or other catalog's with the scratch and sniffs, we both agree the new stuff just stinks.

I just bought my DIL Ralph Lauren in TJ Maxx...also another bottle of a Liz fragrance...guess what..BOTH BAD!

So even in the stores, we can get old stock...guess thats why it's there, and not under glass at a department store!

Default Perfume's Shelf Life

Most perfumes have a shelf life of 3 to 5 years in the right conditions, if it travels from hot to cold and is in the sunlight it will turn bad, however perfumes made with natural ingredients have a longer shelf life of 5 to 7 years. When traveling I take samples with me of perfume as well as skin care products.

If you want to make your perfumes last the best bet is to keep them in a dark cool place. I keep mine in the box they came in and in my make up drawer. Although some of the bottles look oh so pretty out on the counter, the light and heat will degrade them in time.

Yeh, Red Door was a pretty awful scennt. Someone gave me a bottle as a gift. I wore it once and threw it out - all the way to the curb!

A bottle of Eau De LePhew is a good buy! Smells bad when one starts to use it, smells bad to the last drop and beyond!
