In the Caribbean you can buy drinks at any age. My mom went into one store and iwent to go buy her a bear and they gave it to me and im 14. If you go to San Juan when you get off the sjip they have companies there making drinks and giving them to you. They give them to anyone no matter how old.
i think laxbabe420 might have mis-understood. They dont give you drinks on the ship if you get parents permission, but as cruiseprincess0162 said you can get drinks at most caribbean ports when you're young because they dont HAVE drinking ages. This has nothing to do with the cruise lines because you've choosen to get off the boat into a foreign country, so that country's laws apply. I know for sure im goin to Cozumel, Mexico and they dont have a drinking age, so for example I could get as many drinks as I want there even though im 15.
And ya unfortunatly the drinking age applies when you're on the ship.

If you are 17 and under, you get two hole punches on your card meaning No Alcohol...
If you are 18-20, you get only one hole punch, meaning you can drink beer and wine only. No pina colada's or daquiri's, mixed drinks, etc.
And of course, if you are 21 and older, you are able to enjoy what you please.
We recently got back from the Mariner and it seemed that they were really cracking down on the age policy for the bars, club and had a 1am curfew for 17 and under. I did meet one guy, who was 17 at the start of the cruse but turned 18 mid-week, who's parents were cool with him drinking (he was responsible) and let him use his dad's card while they charged everything on the wife's card. If your trying to hide it from your parents, then you shouldn't be drinking at all.

any drinks i bought on land were fine...but then again i bought bottled beer and stuff like that...the ship's mixed drinks were pretty good too though. i didn't have problems sneaking alcohol on the ship from port to make my own drinks on some nights either...
