When i was in public school we didnt have dances cause we didnt have a gym.. we didnt have anything. The school was closed for 30 years and they re opend it cause the other schools were too crowded.. then we had nothing the entire time i was there .. now im on independent study and we dont have dances or anything. Which is cool cause i hated school and i dont dance. haha id rather just go to a friends house and rock out on the guitar. hahaha

I was lucky to go to a school that funded its Social Committee VERY well. We were in charge of organizing and promoting events throughout the school and its 2500 students. We never called them "dances" because people always thought they were cheesy so-to-speak. We changed them to Parties. We tried to incorporate several different activities into each event (like kissing booths for $1, and various other games) so that people would come and not get bored. We hosted several parites like SPLASH, which was a party with a water theme that was outdoors and we had things like a slip-n-slide distance competition, water balloon fights, volleyball, frisbee, flag-football, all with loud music playing for everyone while the teachers cooked on the BBQ. We also had a rave, called Elements, every spring which was an absolute hit, with lasers, smoke, techno/trance music, etc. Anyways...the 8 big parties/dance/events that we had during the year were-

Formals-
Homecoming
Winter Ball
Favorites Dance (Valentines Day)
Fire and Ice Ball (equivilant to Prom)

Non-Formals-
Splash
Elements
Kick It Up (Dance hosted by the Cheerleaders)
Remberance (Pre-Graduation Dance)

One other event we did that wasn't a school-endorsed event was our Spring Retreat which was a hiking/camping over-night trip that we went out with parents. When you get 500 people going camping at the same time, now THAT is fun...
