I'm sittin here drinking my carona's as we speak. Today between classes my boyfriend and I went to a mexican restaurant across the street from our campus and got ourselves a few margarita's.
I celebrate everyday like Cinco tho, the only beer I drink is carona and my drink of choice is a margarita! funny, I'm Irish (I do drink me my Killians on St. Pattys tho)

actually ... I just did a project on Cinco de Mayo and they do celebrate it in mexico, most extensivly in the state of Puebla. Cinco de Mayo (5th of may) marked the battle of Puebla which instilled national pride in the Mexicans and to this day they celebrate it. But ya its celebrated alot in the southern states, and everywhere in the US and Canada to a certain degree (maybe just an excuse to drink i donno lol)

The Mexcians, oddly enough, won the battle of Puebla but lost the war against France. France was attacking because Mexico had unpaid debts. The French held control of Mexico for a short time, ending in 1867 when the Mexicans drove out the French and regained control of their country. Their independance day is different from Cinco de Mayo.. i think its October 16, 1867. But yes, Sara; Cinco de Mayo is celebrated because Mexicans were instilled by the victory on May 5 at the Battle of Puebla national pride and eventually the power to regain control of their country... haha that was pretty boring, srry to put you through that just thought id share my new knowledge lol.

Cinco de Mayo has nothing to do with Mexico independence from France. They won the battle of puebla but eventually lost the war.
