has anybody brought walkie talkies on a cruise? i have a pretty big family and we need to get in touch w/ each other while we're goin different ways on the cruise ships, so i was thinking walkie talkies since cell phones won't work. has anyone done this before, and is it a good idea? what type of walkie talkie wuld u recommend?
hey i went on a cruise about 2 weeks ago, we brought walkie talkies but we actually didnt use them! lol, what we did was either we jsut met up at a certain time or if i went out and my parent were in the room i would call from one of the phones on the ship and if they werent in there room i would jsut leave a message to tell them were i was and about wat time i would go to my room to check if they left me anny messages... and that whole thing worked out great for my family! i hope i helped!
Our family brought walkie talkies. And although there are some "dead" places... what doesn't? They are definately a good way to keep track of each other. Even though you have them... it's still a good idea to have a meeting time and place in case you cant get through. (but still have them)
Hope I helped and Have fun!!
cells won't work because of a few reasons...
1. You gotta pay to use them... walkie talkies you dont
2. There are more "dead" zones with a cell than with a walkie talkie.
3. Cells are more expensive, so if you lose a walkie talkie... it's not AS bad.
4. Not every family has a cell phone for each of its members. I know we don't and we're not wasting the money on one for everyone. It can get nasty expensive.

my mom always trys to use our walkie talkies but we end up just meeting up at certain times to do "family stuff". but if u do use them make sure you get ones w/ like a 5 mile distance, because our 3 mile ones didnt work to well.
Chica_14- one thing pink*peanut forgot was that the only time you would have service is if ur in port, otherwise those phones are completely useless to you.
i wanted to get walkie talkies for our cruise last month, but we never did.
thinking back, i think it would have been a hastle carrying them around and being inturrupted at the worst times.. i worked out fine just checking in
i went on a cruise last summer with my mom and sister and we each had a walkie talkie and it worked out awesome because at any time i could find out where my mom or sister was or vica versa plus, if i was on one end of the ship i could radio to my mom where i was and not have to go all the way back to the room or leave a place to go meet her...so walkie talkies really do help and there not that much of a hastle for me to carry around...we are leaving on another cruise tommorrow and are bringing our walkie talkies..i would recomend getting ones with chargers because this way you dont need to bring extra batteries with you, you can just plop them on the charger at night..hope this helped...and yes, cell phones would not work becuase you are in the middle of the ocean with no signal...
Cell phones won't work because you're outta the US. I brought mine last year and once you get like 3 miles from shore they just say No Network.. So don't even bring it. And with the walkie-talkie thing, I went on the Elation in Nov,2003. They worked great because most walkie talkies have a 1-2 mile range and the ship isn't more than 1/2 mile from one end to another. I'm going on Rhapsody Of The Seas on the 17th of this month, is anyone else going?
there was 1 year that we brought walkie talkies it was soo funny... we never got a hold of each other we were always pickin up every1 elses convos soooo funny,,,, but yea we dont take them ne more .. we usually just have a time 2 meet bak wherever n we use our cell fones for the time

for me the walkie talkies were nice to have when you are trying to find someone but on the other hand my parents used them as an electronic leash to keep tack of me so i would recommend going without them!
