Default Formal nights on Noordam?

How formal ARE the formal nights? Should I buy a dress? or will I just embarrass myself?

BUY A DRESS!!! omg formal nights are so much fun!! and on Holland America on the formal nights, they wont allow you in the dining room unless your dressed up. it doesnt exactly have to be a dress....like a nice skirt and top would be good...but wear a dress!! and then lots of flashy jewelry!! for me, i never get to get dressed up at home unless its for homecoming or prom and i love getting dressed up!! plus you look will hot and older so go buy a dress!!

On HAL, formal nights are a step up from other lines. I would definetly buy a dress and not a cocktail dress either. Not something too fancy but something like you would wear to a formal dance. (not prom)

It really depends on when you go. When i was on the Maasdam at the end of June, school was out and there was a TON of teens on. but then when i went on the Zuiderdam last may during school there werent so many...40 i think? but most of them were weirdos and stayed in their cabins and i never saw them lol. but i actually liked it better when there wasnt that many so you could get really close to the people that are there and have a blast always hanging out.

Well, I went on the Statendam in 2003 and there was a total of 100 kids and teens. Not bad seeing as most of the passengers were over 55. The activities were disorganized too. But idk about your ship.

omg disorganization....tell me about it!!! on my last HAL cruise they booked chruch and teen activies at the same time in the same room...but of course church was more important so ours got cancelled!! we didnt even have a teen room on the Zuiderdam cuz they were refurbishing it the week i was on it!

Its not argued that Holland America Line caters primarily to a different clientel but i think that even when you are on a line that is primarily adults, if it is a hot season or date, there will be teens. HAL, like NCL is not a heavily traveled line by families and kids, but rather more by retired adults and singles. However Holland America has been striving to create a more family-friendly environment and their ships are showing signs of improvement. Give them some slack, if people knew how hard the people on those ships worked, there would almost never be a complaint.

I think alot of the cruise lines like ncl are trying to tap into the family market now, for example on ncl pearl including a bowling alley
