Ladies, where do you buy your formal dresses?

You were all so helpful to me the last time I asked a question, so I'm back asking again.

A friend of mine has a daughter that needs to buy a dress for her prom. Naturally I thought it would be pretty much the same as a formal cruise dress.

So, ladies, please tell me - do you order online or buy in person? Either way, where do you shop? BTW my friend lives in the States.

hi! it depends. sometimes im reluctant to buy online becuase you never know what it really looks like or how the sizes run. i usuaully buy mine at nordstroms, nemian marcus and some juniors stores in our mall. nordstroms has a really good juniors selection for girls so i would def try there. also idk no the style your daughters friend has but theres also dress stores in malls such as jessica mcklintok and besty johnson!

for the past couple of years my mom has made them for me.. but my friends shop at macy's and stuff for their's. we dont have department stores near us excpet for macy's & nordstroms (but thats pretty far away)

i have jessica mcclinton dress too haha. but idk my formal dress isnt as dressy as prom. my prom dress i got at david's bridal. my formal wear i usually by at the black&white store. idk if they have that everywhere but they do at my mall.

Okay for this cruise I have 5 dresses sooo (I love dresses what can I say?)
I got one of them from Windsor, they have really cute dresses for Prom and Homecoming.
I got two from Deb's, it is a store that has so many gorgeous dresses and you can usually catch them on sale for great deals.
I got one on sale from Macy's.
And then my prom type dress I got from www.loralie.com

ETA: Usually I buy in person, but my loralie dress I did get without trying it on... If you're doing it via Online, try to have atleast a good idea of your measurements/size and figure out their exchange policy before hand!

i have a jessica mcclintock dress as well!!!! there amazing dresses.. a lil pricy but well worth it.. also you can look for dresses at dillards they always have cute ones!

BCBG is nice
but for dresses i find i just gotta look everywhere.. and even sometimes at random shops theyll have real cute ones.
there's a lot of other stores i have in mind but i know they dont have it in the states... so i dont have as many suggestions!

All of my dresses are BCBG. I looove their dresses but I would like to get other than BCBG but now my moms on a BCBG kick so its all she'll buy me! shes nutty when it comes to dresses! This year for homecoming I had 4!!

you can get some good deals on Ebay actually. i got my black jessica mcclintock dress for $10!!!
and department stores in the mall...like Sears or JCPenny have REALLY good deals on dresses right after homecoming and prom!! since thats when they want to get rid of the leftover dresses!! i got two at JCP for about $20 each in May.

nordstrom, macys, bloomingdales (mine has a huge prom department), small boutique stores, i dont know if you guys have it but here in cali we do its this store called cache they have really pretty/unique dresses, ummmm... forever 21 has cute ones too and they are cheap! um... the jessica mcclintock store is awesome.. betsey johnson as well... look everywhere you never know where you will find a cute dress. i love shorter dresser they are more fun to dance in.

yea we have cache. but i dont really like any of there dresses. forever 21 as cute ones too. and they are pretty cheap. nothing i would wear to formal night though, maybe smart casual night
