Default Inside vs Oceanview

As most of you know, I am going to Alaska on either the Golden Princess or Serenade of the Seas. We are trying to decide on a stateroom, which brings us to this question-

Is an oceanview really worth it?

We have always cruised with an oceanview stateroom, and we are considering just getting an inside for Alaska. Do inside rooms get claustrophobic?

We were in an inside cabin for my first (and so far only) cruise on Carnival Glory last year. It will be hard for me to answer, since I don't have anything to compare it to. Yeah, it was crowded, but you have to consider how much time you'll really spend in your room. I wasn't in my room much, so it was fine for me. Booking an inside stateroom really saved us a lot of money, so in that sense, it was worth it for us, and we had more money to spend on excursions, souvenirs, etc.

Well on my first cruise we had a balcony, then disney we had a ocean view, and then vos and crown princess we got insides. Insides are fine with me, because im in the room to sleep for like 5 hours? If even that much and to change clothes and take showers and stuff..do if your one to not spend alot of time in the cabin do the inside! But alaska is scenery so I dunno.

well for alaskan scenery ild pick an outside room we got upgraded from a normal balcony outside to a penthouse outside and trust me even in the middle of the ocean i loved being able to see outside. ive had a inside room but i didnt like it cause it does give you enough space to squish stuff!

For alaska an oceanview or balcony is a great idea because there is so much wildlife and you'll be able to see it all from you're room. I was in alaska last summer on serenade of the seas in a balcony and it was definitly
worth it because we could see the hubbard glacier from our room when there were crowds of people on the deck trying to get a good view.

my first cruise i had an inside... it was a little strange not having a window, but you get used to it! i was just happy to be on a cruise! then my family decided that balconies were so much nicer... especially when you are pulling in and out of port and basically just all the time! we only cruise with balconies now, but i wouldnt turn down a cruise because we werent gonna have balconies. i say, for a really scenic place like alaska, you should definitely go for the oceanview, unless its outrageously out of your budget. alaska is so different from the caribbean or mexico, it would be awesome to see it from you room! you'll have fun whatever you choose!

well my grandma went on an alaskan cruise and she had an ocean view room.. she said she wouldnt do it any other way becasue the view was beautiful and always changing! but on my first three cruises we had inside cabins.. it really dosent matter where you stay because your probally not going to spend alot of time in your room anyways! hoped that helped = ]

yeah i agree...alaska has pretty scenery and stuff and you dont want to have to go up on deck to see it. besides i hate inside cabins. i went in one once and i couldnt deal with not having acess to windows and fresh air and stuff.it just bothers me.

Our thought was if we couldn't get a balcony, it wasn't worth it to get an oceanview because there is limited view from an oceanview cabin compared to being out on deck.

Me personally, i only spend about 3 hours a day in the cabin and yes that does include sleeping, I'm usually in around 3:30 and on deck running by 6:30. I dont really care but even though the amount of space in an inside and oceanview cabin is the same typically, i prefer the window at least so its naturaly bright during the day. For the Alaskan cruise, however, i would deffinetly want a balcony or at least a window. Alaska is supposed to be really breathtaking and i cant wait to take an alaskan cruise! Ur so fluckin' lucky!

well we had an inside once as a family when me and my sister were little before me and my sister took up a lot of space so it was no big deal at all!

and then we had balconies, which are definitely my favorite!! but we really only had those cuz on costa theyre like the same price as oceanview practically. but it was so nice to have it. but i'm really never in the room so it didnt matter.

when me and my sister started to get our own cabins we just got insides cuz me and her could care less. and it doesnt feel that small when it's just the two of us. but on the empress, and ncl sea it was pretty cramped. but no biggy. we handled it.

If there is a difference in price between the inside and outside cabin...go for the inside. (some cruises offer the same price/free upgrades). Honestly...youre only going to be in your cabin to sleep and shower (both of which youre not looking outside!!) and you can just go up on deck to look outside!!!! for free!!!! so by getting an inside you are saving money that can be spent on excursions, souvineers, and your next cruise!

lately i've been having cruise dreams that like are nightmares. last night me and my sister went into our cabin and it was no bigger than a closet. with MINI EVERYTHING! and low ceilings. but thats not the first time i've had dreams where the cabins are ridiculously small!! so now whenever i think of cruise cabins i feel claustrophobic (sp?)

i usually have an oceanview with my brother on our cruises but have had one before. i didnt notice a size diffrence at all. the good thing about oceanview is the window...obv, but you get spoiled with it! especially by telling what time it is. in inside cabins you can literally sleep all day without knowing because its pitch black. its annoying but just set an alarm. and its also cheaper. so i mean if you NEED a window book it. but if you dont really care, just go for the inside.

even when i used to have outsides i would sleep all day. after my carnival cruise i realized i wasted the morning sleeping til 11. so on my last cruise i set an alarm every morning for 8:30. so i would be out by about 9ish. its so weird, on cruises i dont even feel sleep deprieved even tho i'm only getting about 3 hours of sleep.

I've been in an oceanview room, and actually didn't find it that good. The window was waaay too small to see anything except daylight. I'd rather stay in an inside room one cruise, and save up for a balcony on the next one!

yea i meant 11 before. not 9. i used to sleep til 11. and be out by like 12ish. but yea i edited it and fixed it.

sleeping is just really dumb on cruises. its not even worth it. all of my friends were the same way and woke up early. except for the guys i was the alarm clock for. every morning we'd all meet over there and wake them up (they gave me a key so i had no problem getting in).

yea they did. like they didnt give me one until like the 3rd night. but really i have never been so close with people on a cruise before. after the first night it honestly felt like foreverrrrr. it felt like the cruise was over, thats how close.

and on the last night we had the hardest time saying byeeee. they told me how close they were to me, and they were really protective over me and stuff. it was cute.
