Default Sovereign of the Seas Review

Travel Review: Sovereign of the Seas!

Congratulations on choosing the Sovereign of the Seas for your cruise vacation. On your 3 or 4 night cruise you will experience luxury, fun and excitement Unlike Any Vacation on Earth™. Lets take a look at all the great things you will enjoy while on your Sovereign of the Seas vacation!

Port Canaveral- As the nation’s 2nd largest port, Port Canaveral has come to be one of the most well known cruise ports in the world. Currently home to 7 cruise ships including the M/S Sensation, M/S Elation, Carnival Glory, Mariner of the Seas, Sovereign of the Seas, Disney Wonder and Disney. Many people see Port Canaveral as just a departure port but there are many activities that occur in Cape Canaveral, Cocoa Beach and the surrounding areas. Most notably, the Kennedy Space Center is open 7 Days week at 9 am except for Dec. 25 and certain launch dates. IN Cocoa beach the famous Cocoa beach pier is favorite of tourists and locals alike with its scenic views and breathtaking sunsets. One final activity found in Port Canaveral’s area are the airboat tours that cover the majestic Florida everglades. Keep this in mind before and after your cruise!

The Ship: The Sovereign of the Seas is one of Royal Caribbean’s most nostalgic and faithful vessels. Making her maiden voyage on January 16, 1988, the Sovereign of the Seas has seen all sides of the Caribbean. At 73,192 tons, 880 Feet, and with a passenger capacity of 2852 guests, she is by no means a small ship. The Sovereign of the Seas not only rivals her larger class sister ships, but also boasts many of their same venues and amenities. Some of these include: RCI’s signature rock wall, Johnny Rockets 50’s Style Diner, Sorrento’s Pizza, Seattles Best Coffee served throughout the ship, Casino Royale, an open air basketball court and a complete Adventure Ocean program. In addition, the Sovereign is host to 2 swimming pools, 2 whirlpools and the ShipShape® day spa and fitness center. For teens and children, the Adventure Ocean Program located on decks 9 and 11, hosts age groups and activities. Activities for: Aquanauts (3-5), Explorers (6-8) and Voyagers (9-11) are located in the dedicated adventure ocean facilities on deck number 9. For Navigators (12-14) and Guests (15-17) Fuel®, The Back Deck® and The Living Room® are located Aft on deck 11 and are THE place to bee for teens from 12-17! As far as dining the Sovereign of the seas offers 6 different restaurants in addition to the various bars and lounges. Johnny rockets, located on deck 12 forward serves up burgers, fries and shakes with a 50’s flair. Sorrentos Pizza, located on the opposite side of Johnny Rockets serves pizza late into the night. The Windjammer buffet, located on deck 11, forward (under Johnny Rockets & Sorrentos) serves up casual buffet food from morning till night. Seattles Best Coffee and Ben & Jerrys/Lattetudes® serves up coffees and ice cream all day. Finally there are the two main dining rooms, Mirage and Illusions located on decks 3 and 4 Midship. These offer breakfast from 7:30-9:30 am, lunch from 12-2pm and 2 dinner seatings at 6:15 and 8:30. There is 1 formal night on 3-4 day cruises. When your done eating, check because more than likely your ship is in port in either sunny Nassau, Bahamas or CocoCay Bahamas! Nassau boasts many different shore opportunities including Shopping, beaches and the Atlantis Resort/Paradise Island. Check onboard at the guests relations/shore excursions desk to book a shore excursion for your days in port. CocoCay is Royal Caribbean’s private island and is a beautiful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the US. On the island you will fine hammocks, chaise lounges, bars, watersports and a straw market. Keep in mind that you must have ca$h to purchase anything at the straw market. All other purchases may be added to your Seapass® account. Nightly, when you return from your day on the islands, you will find the ship bustling with activity whether in Casino Royale, one of the largest casinos at sea, Bolero’s latin lounge, the nautical Schooner bar, Voltage nightclub or of course the revue shows! Follies lounge hosts several shows each night including, on each cruise, 2 revue shows, a variety/comedy act and a late night “R? rated adult comedy show! The revue shows are not to be missed! Finally when ready, on the last night, you should pack your bags and attach the provided color tags to them and place your bags outside of your room by midnight unless you want to carry your luggage off. On the last morning, simply wake up and be out of your stateroom before 8am and wait for your color tag to be called. Remember to have cash available of you intend on getting a porter in the terminal. Also make sure your immigration cards are completely filled out. DO NOT try to take fruit or flowers off the ship, this is an amnesty violation and can cost you a $50,000 fine! If you have exceeded your limits for duty free purchases (2 liters of alcohol provided 1 is bottled in the Bahamas, 200 cigarettes and 100 non-Cuban cigars) , you must present yourself to a customs officer (that’s just my disclaimer, don’t actually do it). And unfortunately, I have to tell you that there is currently no cure for PCB (post cruise blues) other than cruising again!

I hope this review is helpful. If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to ask away!
