Every body bow your heads in sorrow for Empress of the Seas, for she is to be sold to Pulmantur. After the moment of silence, have a feeling of resentment towards Royal Caribbean.

I def agree with the bigger not always better.
the Zenith is the 2nd smallest ship in the Z fleet...and still amazing!!
i guess people who cruise RCCL cruise with them for the adventure and the small dinky old ships just arent cutting it anymore.

I think her last RCCL cruise is either March 8th 2008 ot May 8th 2008, don't remember which!
Bigger isn't always better, I like to draw pictures of things in my notebooks, and I really like to draw cruise-ships, and they are small not just notebook small, but cruiseship small. they might be 60,000 to 75,000 gross tons, that would be perfect!
In the CRUISEMATES NEWS there is an article about Gigantic ships, from 220,000 to 748,000 tons! that is wayyyyyy to big!
omg i absolutely LOVEDDDDDDD!!! that ship. you have no idea. cuz i love small ships and omg so many memories. all my ships are leavinggg. it's so sad. that was like the best ship ever. i'm mad now and gonna be in a bad mood =[[[
the perfect size is 70,000 ish. voyager i think are still too big. anything smaller is okay. but 70,000 i think is perfect. i lovee small ships. and big ones are just ridiculous. i'm so sad right now. the empress is the BEST!
theres some Japanese company that revealed their plans for a cruise ship that is HUUUUUGE. theres like 50 restaurants and it holds 8000 people. theres gonna be a water park and a shopping mall. i don't wanna go on any ships larger than the voyager class ships. once they get too big, its not even like you're on a cruise!
I read about that!!!! and theyre having an amusement park on it!! omg i swear they stole our idea for that!!!!!!
and like 100,000 tons is perfect for me.

"3-26-07: Empress of the Seas to Leave Royal Caribbean Fleet
Royal Caribbean International will soon be saying goodbye to the oldest ship in their fleet, Empress of the Seas, which entered service in 1990 as the Nordic Empress. The 48,563 ton, 2020 passenger, ship will be transferred to Pullmantur, the Madrid-based cruise and tour operator that parent company, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. purchased in November 2006.
The last voyage of Empress as part of the Royal Caribbean International fleet will be March 7, 2008. Guests booked on all sailings after this date will be contacted by Royal Caribbean International representatives to transfer existing reservations to similar accommodations onboard other Royal Caribbean ships. Royal Caribbean International has established a toll-free number for travel agents and guests with questions regarding the re-accommodated sailings. The toll-free number is (888) 281-9344. Empress of the Seas joined the Royal Caribbean fleet in June 1990 and was built by Chantiers de L'Atlantique in St. Nazaire, France. She was refurbished in May 2004.
Two of the ships that Royal Caribbean acquired when they purchased Pullmantur were the significantly smaller former Renaissance R-ships (of which eight were built), in the neighborhood of 680 passengers. Those ships have been re-flagged to the Celebrity cruises fleet as Celebrity Journey and Celebrity Quest, and are currently being re-furbished."

i know there was just something about it that made me loveee it so much. probably cuz it took me to BERMUDA and i met the BEST people. but the way its set up is so cool. and i just loveddd it. i cant even tell you.
That sucks, I think they should keep it since lots of people love it, and it should keep going to bermuda!
But I'm happy about them making bigger ships! But that japanese ship is way to big, it's probably not going to happen though, if you think about it, it's not safe with all that stuff on it.

Dude, and u were making fun of my ship!?!? That thing is a total piece of crap. If you've ever seen it you'd know! I cant speak personally cuz i've never been on it but the pics reveal the crappiest and tiniest ship in the fleet. But i'll give u a moment of silence cuz its one of ur RCI babies.

Hey! it wasn't a peice of crap! It might have been small but it was a good ship. She was easy to navigate, and not a lot of long lines. She was in my opinion the best ship in the fleet.

that doesnt really make sense.. if you've never seen it except in pictures, how do you know how bad or good it is? everyone that's been on it agrees they're losing a nice ship, but i think if you've actually been on it, you'd know it isn't a "total piece of crap" otherwise they wouldn't have kept it for as long as they did.

Ive never been on it, and probably never would because it's really small.
But I think they should have kept it anyway, because it's so tiny it can go into lots of ports the bigger ships can't fit in. Plus people love it..but why are they selling it anyway?

I never thought I would go on it because of its size, I'm much more into bigger ships, but the Empress' size really was nice. And it's true, it's one of only 3 ships that are small enough to get into certain ports in Bermuda, why replace it? And to answer your question, they're selling it because it probably isn't making them the money that they want.

I dont understand this though. Everyone hates Carnivals smaller ships (jubilee which is gone now, Holiday, and celebration and even the fantasy class) and they always say they are sooo small and old yet the empress is much smaller and just as old! Ugh I dunno lol! I just like them all lol!
i agree that sometimes its nicer to be on a smaller ship. but i don't like to feel waving seas and stuff and you usually dont feel it on bigger ships. but i do agree though that ships shouldnt get any bigger than they presently are. yeah it will have more stuff but it wont be the same cruise-y experience.
omg empress wasnt crappy at all. it was sooo nice!!! it didnt look old at all. you probably saw pictures of it before its refurb or something cuz i was just on it in the summer and i was expecting it to be crappy but it wasnt at all. cuz when i went on NCL Sea (small & old too) it was hideous and crappy, and i was expecting the same. but it was REALLY NICE!
maybe not one of your big ships. but i dont like big ships anway.
