tips for 14 year old about to cruise on Sensation

Hi I wanted to get any tips for my son as we'll be cruising on Carnival Sensation in a few weeks. What are the teen programs like? How do they organize sports events? Where do they mostly hang out? Are 14 years olds allowed in the teen disco?

Anything you can tell me so I can pass it on to my son will be great, this is our first cruise and probably only one.

well for what it's worth
i had an amazing time at club o2 but that's for 15 + or however old they were lol... the ones through age 14 looked pretty nice though, and the kaleidescope was reserved a couple nights on the cruise exclusively for teenagers 14 and under.
i think he'll like it.

I was 14 on one of my cruises and because I looked older and act more mature.. I was able to "sneak-in". Without the teen director askng me. I would suggest if he does sneak into club o2 that he not... go the first night because that is whenthey are most strict. =]

I'll be sailing on the ship, one cruise before yours. There are 2 Club O2 directors on this ship, Andy and a new one who just got there. Based on my experience with her before, typically teens who are 14 aren't allowed into the club especially during high number cruises. Camp Carnival (12-14) has a dance each night from 8-10 in Kalidescope Disco as well as movie nights and a variety of activities including scaveger hunts and showtime in the Fantasia lounge. Depending on the Camp Carnival counselor, they may have different sports nights. I know 15-17 has had a midnight basketball night in the past and sometimes have ping pong tournaments. Feel free to PM me of you have specific questions about your cruise or the ship as i've been on it 4 going on 5 times.

Although some directors say that you can not come in the club if u are younger than 15..
A lot of times if your son does hang out with 15 year olds or older.. if he walks in with them and he does act mature and looks older. They will not question him.

*** Please note this all varies on the director that you have. Some will not allow teens under 15. And checks everyone as they come in the door.

Andy is a bit*h and they check each night especially now that they have 2 directors. They'll get farther by asking her upfront if its ok that he go in O2.

Definately ask before-- if your son acts mature, he will most likely be allowed in.

Joe, have you ever considered that there are some people out there who do not have the opportunities that we do such as traveling 2,3 or more times a year. I doubt she means theyre opposed to cruising but, to some people, a cruise is a major financial engagement.

Your son is sure to have a great time! He is certainly allowed in the teen disco. I'm twelve, and I was allowed. During the day, all of the teens hung out in the disco. You basically just talk, hang out, play a few games, make smoothies and daquiries, etc. At night, the teen disco turns into a night club. Everyone dances. There's even a prom night. If your son has lots of charisma, I'm sure he'll find a girl or two to go grinding with. Unfortunately though, you won't get to see him because parents aren't allowed in the disco. Make sure that he goes to the teen disco the first day because that's when everyone bonds and make friends. Remember, n one knows anyone else on the ship to begin with, so he can try making some friends through a website like cruisecritic, or cruise mates. Hope he has a ton of fun!

I know one thing, there is no grinding on the sensation right now. I was kicked out of the club by Andy for grinding aka "inappropriate conduct". I wasnt the only one either. I'm asuming the poster with the cheery disposition hasn't been on this ship because i can GUARANTEE they dont let 12 year olds into Club O2 on the Sensation and they don't have a prom night?... But thats just an assumption

but the rest of the time we were like...

we even found an open condom packet thingy

...yes, her disposition is definitely blindly optimistic.

When i was on in May she had been on for less than a month and i'm hoping thats worn off by now. Her disposition is due in part to her working in Camp Carnival for 6 years prior to being promoted to Club O2 and this being her first teen contract.

Hopefully now that she's been at it a while and has a new, younger Club O2 Co-director, she'll be a little more chill. She's a really cool person but is always on the defense about teens. Hopefully that guard has been lowered.

On my cruise she would say something over the mic every time someone started grinding, if they continued, she;d say something else, if it kept going, she'd kick us out.

Dan tells me the new co-director is cool so i guess we'll see.

yeah i can see how working with kids
can make you a little... edgy... about working with teens
there's like a whole world of difference

teens are just so much worse than kids.

the co-director was really nice and definitely let us get away with a lot.
like andy left this one time and everyone was going crazy and these kids were like makin out on the couch and stuff.. and the new lady was just like, smiling at us watching us dance. i'm like, "oh. how nice."

oh and, the blindly optimistic disposition belongs to the poster
who says she's 12 and just walked into the teen club thing.

The poster has obviously been on a RCI cruise and is eager to join us here on cruisemates. I'm sure whoever he/she is will be an awesome addition on here cuz they remind me of...me when i found this place. eager to share what I know, unfortunately it didnt quite fit in with this particular thread. Its cool though.

The prom is the giveaway as its native to RCI's voyager and freedom class of ships. But i know better than ANY 12 year old getting into Andy's club.

But yeah Dan, our old teen host before Kristina has since gone on to work with Carnival Cruise Lines as a Club O2 director himself and tells me the co-director is awesome and much more chill.

But i've used my last cruise as a learning experience and will go in this time with an arsenal of plans to make this a cruise i, she or my fellow passengers wont soon forget!
