Club 02 (volume 1 of teen club series)

ok this is for people like me who have cruised on a certon class of ship and loved the teen club but want to ty somepthing new like a new class of ship but concerned about the teen club in this particular article club 02 is the topic so ive cruised on carnival miracle (when it didonnt have club 02 added yet) and carnival glory with the huge ultraviolets. so for people like me that want to know the best club 02 on each class of ship.

for: example how are they on the triumph because on the deck plans it looks tiny. or ow about spirit class?

it may sound stupid to some of you but usuialy i only get 1 cruise a year (i think i talked my parents into more) so i want to make the most of my experience so i want to know how good the club is, the director, activities etc. so ive created this for people to post pics, talk and discuss the clubs on different ships to help people decide their next ship! i will be making an rci page with fuel, optix, flashes and on and on.

this is a good idea..
i went on carnival miracle before they had a club O2 too.
and now i'm going on carnival destiny, so if anyone knows anything about that ship.. let me know.

I too have been on the Glory whiuch now has been changed to Club O2 at Ultraviolets and has had an upgrade.

The Fantasy class ships were the last class of Carnival's ships to recieve the Club O2 Programs. The M/S Fantasy was outfitted with Spirals in 2003 as part of a fleetwide program to install teen facilities onboard all the ships in their fleet. Since that time, the Carnival/Coke Club O2 program was developed and brings with it, its own unique decor which the club on the Fantasy has since been outfitted with. The M/S Senation, another of my ships, has also been outfitted with the club o2 program. On the Fantasy Class ships, Club O2 is located on Promenade Deck forward right between the Main Show Lounge and the Casino. The M/S Inspiration also recieved the Club O2 facility in the past year as well as the Ecstasy and Elation. The Ships that do not yet have the complete Club O2 package yet, will have it installed as part of the Fantasy Class Refurbishment Program occuring between 2007 and 2009.

The Only ships that do not and will never have Club O2 or a dedicated teen facility are the Holiday class ships: M/S Holiday and M/S Celebration. Both ships have a teen program with a "teen director" but no dedicated club like the rest of the ships in the fleet have or will have by 2009. At the present time the teens on these ships will be able to participate in activities taking place all over the ships. The fate of these vessels is yet to be determined but I think their retirement is in the near future.

Ships with no club:
Holiday
Celebration
Carnival Pride

Ships with a club, but not Club O2 decor:
Fantasy
Ecstacy
Sensation
Elation
Paradise
*These ships have an older O2 design.

Carnival Victory
Carnival Conquest
Carnival Glory
Carnival Valor
Carnival Liberty

Ships with the official Coke/Club O2 decor:
Fascination
Imagination
Inspiration - yay
Carnival Destiny
Carnival Triumph
Carnival Spirit
Carnival Legend
Carnival Miracle
Carnival Freedom

I am the Club O2 Director on the Inspiration. I have worked on the Miracle (pre lounge install) and the Liberty too. We tend to move around a lot, but the Inspiration is now my permerant home. The Inspiration is one of the highest rated ships for Club O2! I have good friends who work on the Victory, Spirit and Legend.

Djcarolina July 13th, 2007 09:00 PM

Its funny, though many of the Conquest Class ships have much larger clubs, the smaller ships like the Inspiration have the highest rating for their club O2 program. Just a guess but i think the teens on smaller ships have a tendency to bond more than on larger ships where the size alone separates teens.

If my understanding is correct, however, the Fantasy and Sensation have the updated Carnival/Coke Club O2 decor. Its sad that the Fantasy Class ships have such small space for the clubs but I understand some of the ships will be getting new clubs, spaces and decor during their dry-dock refurbishment.

The problem I see with the larger ships that havent yet been updated is that ones such as the Glory have such elaborate theming, like the "game" theme in Ultraviolets, that it would almost be a shame to take all that away and replace it with an industry standard look. Carnival's ships have unique character to them in their theming and decor, and I'd hate to see their clubs begin to look mass produced like some other line out there with a blue anchor logo.

Ryan I get what you mean. but like on Carnival Liberty.. the decor is SOOO kidish for teens. It has sail boats, and ships across the wall, and everything you can thing of that doesn't run on batteries[toy wise] and it just looks pathetic for teens to have to hang out there. Although everyone on my cruise didn't care I'm sure if they were looking online at the club.. or the first time they saw it when they were taking a look around the ship, they were thinking how ridiculously kidish it looks. It should have been the Camp Carnival area in my opinon[ for the level under 12-14] lol.

Djcarolina July 13th, 2007 09:48 PM

Yeah, i havent been on too many of the larger ships but the decor in the Glory is the basis for my comment and IMO its awesome and to replace it with silver and red coke logos and Club O2 stuff would like totally kill the vibe. Then again we have to keep in mind, the decision is up to corporate HQ and theyre gonna promote Coke and Club O2 in every way they can in the facilities which is why your supposed to get the postcards, folder, beach bag and other stuff on your cruise. Some club O2 directors give it out, other dont. Most kids dont care, its kinda pointless, but the purpose is corporate marketing and the decisions are left up to whoever sits in the leather chair in Miami.

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 09:54 PM

Just looking online at the pictures of Without Batteries on the Carnival Liberty. I would trade the club that it has now "with silver and red coke logos and Club O2 stuff" ANYDAY! The one on the Carnival Glory looks cool.. but the Liberty's club Club o2 just looks like little kid heavan. Nothing speacil to a teen. The dance floor looked like it was cheap.. unpolished and scratches all over it[which they could prob. replace] and the lights were horrible. The music was just the director putting in a CD.. and playing the music really loud. Although I really enjoyed the club, it does need some other design besides Without Batteries.

Djcarolina July 13th, 2007 10:01 PM

I see you too have been a victim of the CD-DJ. I've found the issue with many of the clubs to be that the director doesn't know how to operate the equipment properly. My first cruise on the Sensation I actually taught the Club O2 director how to operate her board and dual decks. They have nice systems and subscriptions from Promo Only giving them everything they need to play a variety of music and perform an excellent show. Sure, they know how to press 4 buttons and make music come out and how to flip on a switch to turn on the lights, but they don't know how to use the equipment to its fullest extent. The M/S Sensation has a $8,000 light system from Martin lighting that is only on sound active and repeats the same cycle every 20 seconds. The Mariner of the Seas has an $13,000 light system that does nothing more than spin 1 color. Its my personal oppinion that every club should have a Club O2 Director and a Club O2 DJ who is trained on how to fully operate the sound and lighting system.

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 10:10 PM

I agree with you that each club should have a Club o2 director and a Club o2 DJ. It kinda ridiculous that they spend the money on the equipment for the clubs and they dont use it to its greatest ability.

How is the music on RCI ships?
Does it depend on the director?

homesickfortheocean July 13th, 2007 10:49 PM

i hope they have a little more selection next time
at one of the dances we just kept dancing for so long
that they had to recycle the songs. at like 11 they started playing the songs over... and it was funny because they did it in like exactly the same order.

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 10:53 PM

it was prob.
from a CD

homesickfortheocean July 13th, 2007 10:54 PM

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 11:01 PM

ahh tanks. girl =]

Djcarolina July 13th, 2007 11:08 PM

Yeah, but recycling songs is not as bad as putting in a CD and just letting it play. On my last Fantasy cruise, last summer, the director asked me to DJ the last night. I used my CDs and we started at 9 and had a solid crowd till 2am, one of the best cruises ever. Even though I had to go back in the collection a ways, we had an awesome group of teens who were up for any and everything. If you have a good DJ/Director, then its all good!

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 11:12 PM

had to go back in the collection?

homesickfortheocean July 13th, 2007 11:16 PM

they should have a Ryan on every cruise =]

Djcarolina July 13th, 2007 11:24 PM

To go back in the collection means to play music from the previous summer. Last summer hot songs were like Snap Yo Fingers and Goin Down and we played those along with the 2 classics, Yeah! and Get Low as well as some older songs like Wait (The Whisper Song) and Laffy Taffy.

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 11:27 PM

ah i would have liked that.

i agree we do need a ryan on every cruise!

homesickfortheocean July 13th, 2007 11:28 PM

doesn't take long for music to get old, does it.

KTS1193 July 13th, 2007 11:38 PM

really joe.
thats kinda cool though.
idk why just is.

i love listening to my music from the 90's lol

homesickfortheocean July 13th, 2007 11:40 PM

Djcarolina July 14th, 2007 12:10 AM

There are some songs that will always be around, get low, yeah, baby got back, ice ice baby (tell me u dont smile when u hear it and ur a liar) and songs like that. this new stuff will be forgotten quick

KTS1193 July 14th, 2007 12:13 AM

alot of the times a DJ's where i live will play YEAH by usher lol

Djcarolina July 14th, 2007 12:19 AM

I play it at every teen gig but i usually remix it with something.

KTS1193 July 14th, 2007 12:22 AM

like.. with what?

Djcarolina July 14th, 2007 12:25 AM

One of the most popular mixes is with Michael Jackson's Billie Jean as well as with some Prince songs. I can mix nearly anything I want as long as the number of beats per minute are the same between the songs.
