Default carnival vs royal caribbean...

based on your experience, whats ur favorite?

mine is royal, cuz its just nicer ships, better food (ahh... the food), better shopping, and better teen activities...

don't get me wrong. i went on carnival for my first two cruises, and thats what turned me on to cruising in the first place. been on four royal cruises since then... sweetness i dont know if ill ever go back (maybe on a really new ship)... who knows

Seriously- this has been beaten to death. Check out some of the other RCI and CCL threads, there are some recent ones that address this very issue.

Royal has never and will never be better than CCL in several things (and I can comfortably say this having been more than once on both cruise lines):
Food - CCL has always had a lead in customer service and food. RCCL has never stood up to the quality level of CCL's food.
Overall fun- RCCL cannot ever beat out CCL in overall fun (except maybe in physical fun). Large ships often result in a "cramped" feeling onboard with longer lines and less visible crew and staff (i.e. cruise directors)
Adventure and amenities go to RCCL; there is no beating surfing, rock climbing and ice skating.

Seriously, my response to Which is better: RCI or CCL, from now on is going to be "Go on both and tell me". There are so many variables that play into that answer that its hard to say.

I was VERY pleased with the Sovereign of the Seas this weekend. They had tidied up the ship very well, the staff was pleasant and they had some new additions that added to the cruise experience.

We were also in port with the newly-refurbished Carnival Fascination. Just from the outside looks of the ship, she had undergone a MAJOR change and their deck party kicked ass!

I can attest to Carnival having some great food and RCI has had some pretty crappy food. This weekend it was all good (cept the dining room).

It all depends on the person. Someone looking for 5 star food, white glove service, 5 Diamond accomodations and a primp, proper ship, is going to hate both cruise lines.

Carnival is a more casual line, whose teen clubs, food and entertainment have always met and exceeded my expectations.

Royal Caribbean is the industry leader when it comes to the largest ships with the most amenities. Unfortunately, I think their quest to be the biggest and the best may have led them to lack in some key areas, food, service and upkeep.

larger ships with more people= more crew members. there is always a high ratio of crew members on board no matter how big the ship is and the bigger the ships, the larger the public areas are so the cramped feeling is not quite true.

So the teen clubs on carnival are better for meeting people than the ones on RC? Because me and some buds are going on a cruise in july and we are trying to decide between RCI's enchantment of the seas or CCL's carnival legend any advice?

Everyone uses the "Carnival's Ships arent as nice as RCI's" argument, but they don't consider that the ships theyre comparing are in different classes. Its true, Royal Caribbean's Freedom class ships have a lot to offer that even Carnival's Conquest class ships (the largest ships in the fleet) do not have. However, a freedom class cabin will cost you 600-700 more for a 7 night vacation for 2 people than one on a conquest class ship.

A pet peeve I also have with RCI is that their ships are nice, yes, but theyre what I call factory ships. Every RCI ship is exactly the same, they just have different features. Every one has Fuel or Optix, Schooner Bar, Windjammer, Their Showlounges are the same styling etc. Yes, there are some slight differences between ships and decades (older-newer ships), but every carnival ship is completely different, in its theming, decor and overall cruise schedule.
