Default Carding Question for Freedom of the Seas Cruisers - Crypt

Hi everyone - just joined this forum - looks like a great place to be!

Here's my dilemma: My family is cruising on Freedom during Spring Break with 4 other families - all good friends. All my friends are 18 and up - I'm 16. I REALLY want to be able to get into the big club - the Crypt, with my friends, parents, etc., JUST TO DANCE. This is like hugely important to me. Everyone always thinks I'm at least 18. Note: I'm not interested in doing anything illegal, I just want to be able to hang with my friends & family & DANCE. My Mom is totally cool with the idea, if I can figure out how to get in.

Sooo, here's my question: what are the EXACT CARDING PROCEDURES at the entrance to the CRYPT? Do they have the SeaPass card readers? Does anyone know if the card readers pull up photo and birth date, just photo, just birth date?????

If they have card readers, do I need to show an ID, too? If I can find this out now, I think I can figure out a way to get around the system and get in.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has cruised on Freedom of the Seas. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick replies -

No, I wouldn't be able to change my passport or anything! I'm just wondering if I could use my friend's id and seapass card (she's over 18) to get into the Crypt. We look somewhat alike.

No, you won't be able to use your friend's Seapass. It scans your card and brings up a large picture of your face as well as your direct age so they don't even have to think. I was also gonna comment on the lying on the documents thing, its a very bad idea and could have you detained in a foreign country. Your best bet is going to be getting in the middle of a large group and slipping past the guard or going in the back door on the deck below.

when i was on freedom they had 2 guards at each door. however, me and my freind foun a group of drunken middle aged weomen and got in the middle of all of them and got in just fine. however, it wasnt worth it because it was just a bunch of old people ballroom dancing to "candy shop"

Ah ha! Slipping in the door on the bottom floor . . . that's just the sort of info I'm looking for. Appreciate the tip.

Now, if my friend gets her initial picture taken on embarkation w/her hair back in a pony tail, no makeup, no smile, etc., and we share a basic resemblance, in your opinion, do you think the bouncers would pick up on that? I would always be going in a big group, including my parents and friends parents (they're actually fun to hang w/)

there are ALLWAYS ways to get around security. On some cruiselines, it is a whole lot easier than others. but on BOTH doors there are 2 security guards and it will not be easy! but if you are smart, and pkay your cards right, you will make it in.

Theres also a fire exit to the left of the DJ booth that leads to a crew access. You can go in the crew access in the cabin hallway behind it and then enter the club there if u do it at the perfect time and slip through tightly. Thats how i've done it.

I'm surprised that if you are with your parents that they just won't let you in. Guess it's the alcohol thing...they don't want you sneaking a drink.

ya - i don't know why they wouldn't let me in if i'm with my parents, but w/e. And, for the alcohol thing, I don't drink, and it's not like there's not tons of other places that do sell alcohol where kids are around ..... what really bothers me is the way cruise ships have all these age related rules. But, I really do love cruising, so I guess it's something I just have to figure a way around.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, though.

Does anyone know your age pops up o n the card reader if you are OVER 21? Or is your birthdate displayed if your under 21?

Its for your safety. They could care less about alcohol in you. The reasoning is this: 22 year old guys + alcohol + 16 year old girls= a very bad combination. Same goes for guys and whatnot. It keeps you out of a situation that could be dangerous for you if the wrong circumstances occur. Its just to protect minors and save RCI's butt from a lawsuit.

Whenever ANYONEs card is scanned in any of the seascan machines, it pulls up your complete profile. It shows your cabin, age, dob, picture etc.

If you get in without someone noticing you, nobody will bother you.

Also remember, if your under 18, your card has 3 immediate giveaways on it: 2 holes- Meaning Under 18, M1- Meaning Under 18 and a Shadow of teens dancing meaning your a "guest (15-17)"

Ryan - you do know your stuff! Okay, I have a reason for asking this: are there any seapass cards w/just 1 hole punched in it, and no other different marks?

On another note, just curious, with all the cruises yu'v been on, what's your favorite ship?

MarieMarie, I just got off Liberty of the Seas a week ago (sister ship to Freedom) and the teen club is AMAZING! There are a ton of teens 15-17(over 500 on my cruise) and the teen dance club is always hoppin. So whenever you get tired of your family and get rejected from the Catacombs, the teen club is a pretty cool place to hang out and dance.

From word of mouth, I heard of alot of people sneaking into the Catacombs by getting in with a big crowd or by using someone else's seapass who looked VERY similar. However, the group of girls that got into the catacombs was back at the teen club within 35 minutes!

Its rare that it works for teens to get into the adult clubs by the main doors on the Voyager and Freedom class ships, mainly because of the beefed up security. They usually have 2 people checking cards to ensure nobody slips by. Some teens say they got in when they didnt.

It really doesn't matter what ur card looks like, they'll scan it and compare it BUT heres the breakdown on Seapasses:

Insignia:

M1- Under 18
M2- Under 21, above 18 (18-20)
No insignia- over 21

Shadow:

Dancing Shadow- Under 18
No Shadow- Over 18

Holes:

2 holes punched in card- Under 18
1 hole punched in card- Under 21, over 18
no holes punched in the card- over 21

In january they got my card mixed up somehow and i had no shadow, no insignia and no holes punched in it. I never stayed in the adult club, cuz the teen club was the place to be!

I've been on over 70 cruises and its difficult to choose an all time favorite. I have favorite ships for different reasons. But my most significant memories come from the Carnival Fantasy. However, when it comes to features- Freedom of the Seas and when it comes to the best club- Carnival Glory.

well you said that you and your friend will look somewhat like each other... so do what we do in college..... pass her seapass card back to you. make her go in first amongst everyone... and have someone pass it back to you.

Or she could just bypass security and go through the back entrance. On the Freedom it was never guarded.

on the explorer, the back entrance was guarded both times.... and on the jewel the back entrance was guarded as well. but thats a different class of ship so it doesnt apply.

my sister and i used to have this problem... and once i turned 18 it was alot harder b/c one of us could get in, but the other couldn't. but now shes 18 so its cool. back then, i would go in the club see if anyone cool was in there, and then come out and we would wait for a large group of people (mostly like mid 20s or 30s women who had drinks in their hands... haha) because they would never be carded and my sister would just dance kind of by them with a drink in her hand lol... and it ALWAYS worked! there was not one night that she didn't get in the club. then i would go in after the large group. SUCCESS! this was on carnival though. we would be friendly to security when we left and they would remember her the next time... plus shes tall and had always looked older than me lol.
