probably, just talk to the teen director on the first day before you sail and tell them your situation. if youre still in high school then everything should be fine.

Some Carnival directors are slack and will let you tho theyre not supposed to. On Royal Caribbean, with their new 08 GVP its a deffinite no.

I'm in the same situation, 18 years old and going on a Royal Caribbean cruise with my 16 year old brother. Will they really not let me into the teen areas? Seems kind of hard to believe...

no, you can during the day, but at night when the real fun begins, you cant, unless you sneak in wich is verry dificult on RCI

Well on Explorer of the Seas, there were a lot of 18 year olds in the teen club. And when I met them I asked why and basically they got in because they were with younger siblings/family/friends so they asked the teen director person and they checked with security and they said it was fine. So I think it depends on the people at the teen club.

Can't you get a waiver signed by your parents that your able to purchase alcoholic drinks? I'm not sure if that was RC or not. I would say if you can't get into the teen areas, then you should be able to have fun anyways!

That used to be how it was on RCCL but they changed that rule back in July of 2006. The rule only applies to European cruises and you can only drink beer and wine.

This question needs to be a sticky or something. The fact is, we can all tell you our experiences and tales and theories and even the ship's policy. But regardless of whats said here, the teen director will have the final call. So just ask them when you get on the ship. Its that simple.

Ah ok. I wasn't quite sure how that worked. Last cruise was '05, so I figured they've changed something with that new act they passed.

Summer of 2007, on Carnival Victory out of NYC to Canada, the 18 year olds were on the official teen list. They told me that I could attend all the events, but just just don't take up the video games if the 17 and under want to play.

A cruise from New York to Canada?
Yea, and if you do go, I would suggest bringing along a jacket, even in the middle of August. It's 5 nights and stops in Halifax, Nova Scotia and St. John, New Brunswick.

The directors can not and will not legally let you in. HOWEVER on my cruise every night we snuck like 8 girls and 2 guys who were 18 in.

just out of curiosity (and since you pretty much know everything, ryan) why is it illegal for them to let in 18 year olds?

If youre on RCI it actually isnt very difficult to sneak into if it a voyager class ship like navigatro or explorer. my friend was 14 one year and wanted to get in the older group. In the back of fuel there is a crew only door that goes to the back deck right by johnny rockets. you can just walk right in there and slip in when nobody is looking

I beg to differ. See the problem with sneaking in through that access on G2 voyager class vessels is that if caught, sneaking in through a crew passageway is grounds for being kicked off the ship and YES they will enforce it. The sliding door is the best way and walking right by or behind someone is easier and safer.

Its illegal for anyone over 18 to be in a teen area because of the legal logistics. Technically everyone 17 and under is a minor regardless of the "legal age of consent". If there were to be a fight between an 18 year old and a minor in a RCI activity space designated for 17 and under only then Royal Caribbean (or any cruise line) would be held 100% responsible and could very easily be sued. The same goes for hookups (sex) between a minor and a legal adult. Any adult misconduct that occurs within the minor areas is the responsibility of RCI. Its not fair but its the law and RCI isn't about to put their credibility in jeopardy.

This isn't to say that every 18 year old is a threat but they can't risk it. Its also not completely locked in they they can't get in, but it depends on your circumstances. Our TD was ok with it as long as they got by security and he "didn't know", but he said if theyre drunk or start something it was our as*es that were gonna fry.

And FYI- Explorer doesn't have Fuel. Its a P1 Voyager Class vessel and features Optix rather than the Fuel/Living Room Combo. Optix isn't connected to any crew passage, and in place of Fuel is a kiddy water play area called Adventure Beach.
