Default Girls: short or long dress on formal night?

Just curious, as the last cruise I went on was 3 1/2 yrs ago. Is there a major trend toward long or short dresses on formal nights, or does everyone just do their own thing? I've got some great knee length cocktail dresses, but wasn't sure if I'd be breaking the code if it wasn't long.

(Guys, feel free to put yur 2 cents in, too)

Also, do people actually follow the "smart casual" guideline anymore? I never exactly figured out what smart casual night meant,anyway.

Thanks!

I wear short dresses on my cruises and I have noticed that other teenage girls have worn both long and short. I dont think it really matters.

Your going on Freedom ots so you will have 2 formal nights. My recommendation would be to have a nicer, longer formal dress for the first formal night which is usually the "most formal" of the two. Then, for the 2nd formal night, wear a cocktail dress as it tends to be less formal. Either way, most girls take them off before they go to the club anyhow.

Short =]

i wear short, cocktail style dresses....like homecoming dresses..on formal nights. Prom dresses are MUCH TOO dressy for a cruise.

and smart casual is like country-club wear....khakis and polos for guys and skirts and blouses/tasteful tanks for girls.

Short dress. For sure. I know that for like prom and homecoming, I rock the long, elegant ballgown situation.. but for cruises you want bright colors and short party dresses. You def wanna look flirty instead of elegant.

For me, short dresses seem a little more flirty (which I don't mind), where as longer dresses are more sophisticated. I like both!

i have definitely re-worn some prom dresses in the past... but my prom dresses where usually above the knee... so i guess that is considered a cocktail dress. i usually bring one really dressy(like prom style) dress for the first formal night (the one with the captain's cocktail party, and then for the 2nd one another nice dress but sometimes not AS dressy. and then for the rest of the nights i wear more casual dresses. most people do follow the "smart casual" dress code, but theres always those few who don't care and come in a bathing suit underneath a sundress and end up looking trashy....

Lol Mr. Sexy Legs is right.

Its just like the opposite of this thread for guys- whatever looks good on u.

If your going for that slow descent down the grand staircase in the gorgeous gown- by all means, do it.

If your looking to be a flirt and have some fun- by ALL means wear the short cocktail dress...by ALL means
