Default I'm afraid I'm not cut out for the cruise life. :(

Okay, so a bit of context to start off. My name's Angela, I'm 16 years old. I'm currently residing in BC, Canada (where I've lived for most of my life). I grew up in the suburbs a relatively small city, where there's never really anything interesting going on. I've had pretty much the same group of close friends since elementary school.

I'll be going on my first cruise at the end of this summer, and I am really quite anxious... I honestly don't know what to expect. I mean, I'd love to meet new people and have fun of course, but I think it might be rather difficult. So I'll spill the beans here: I don't drink, I don't dance and I don't have any experience with relationships. (It's not my fault, really. As lame as this sounds, pretty much everyone at my school is like this, haha. Good grades > Fun) Oh yes, to top it all off, I have an overprotective Asian dad. Lol, sounds promising huh?

Seriously, I need some reassurance, guidance, sympathy, advice... whatever you can give? Thanks a bunch. Ohh and I have MSN/AIM if anyone wants to chat. =)

don't worry about it people will be nice, it's vacation. just go to the organized teen activities the first night, tan, and eat some good food

good things about asian parents is *in my exp.* never really 'know' what's REALLY going on

The thought of stepping into a teen club alone kind of intimidates me, I'll give it a shot though. Haha I guess that's true.

While I'm not Asian, I think I can give some insight to semi-conservative parents. Parents never really know what really goes on in the teen club unless you go and tell them. As recently as my last 3 cruises I might as well have been cruising alone (according to my parents) because I saw them for mealtimes and then in the morning for ten to fifteen minutes.
While you might not dance, it wouldn't kill you to give it a try; I know for sure that dancing definitely "breaks the ice". You don't have to drink to have a good time on a cruise, just let all your inhibitions go and you're guaranteed to have fun. If you hesitate to have fun you are definitely more likely to ruin your own cruise; just let loose, forget about where you are and what you're doing and just have fun. Cruises are the best way to shift away from your home life and try something you would not normally try out.
Lack of relationship experience while it may seem like an issue, it really isn't; I know I have actually gained experience on cruises. Keep in mind that if you're going to go and start a relationship on the cruise, don't wait for the last night, and don't get too attached unless the person lives near you (see Ryan for more info on that). Cruise relationships and friendships definitely last...I have friends from cruises up to 4 years ago I still talk to (my first cruise as a teen) all the way up until my last cruise.

Just talk to ppl. Be open i wasted my whole first cruise cause i didnt want to go to the teen club cause i didnt kno anybody. But then i saw how much fun ppl were havin but it was to late to join so i was rlly pissed. Now im pretty crazy on cruises cause i dont want to regret or miss out on anything. ANd just rember after 7 day ,or however long your cruise is, youll NEVER see these people again so who cares. Be the star of the cruise. Make yourself famous on that ship so that when ppl go home and tell ppl about the cruise they talk about you. most of all HAVE FUN its summer vacation cmon live a little.

my parents are really strict too and they give me a crufew of 11 or 1130 if i'm lucky
so you have to make the best of whatever time you might have
and go to the meet and greet on the first night cause it will help you have friends for the rest of the week
and like what everybody else pretty much said a cruise is what you make it so just go and have fun cause chances are you'll never see the people you meet again

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it. Haha I guess it's true that since (most likely) I won't be seeing these people again I can "let loose" without others passing judgement. I mean, as long as I go OVERBOARD and stumble into the stateroom reeking of alcohol and sweat at 4:00am in the morning, I'm relatively safe from my parents.

And by not dancing, I was more specifically referring to grinding or whatever you crazy kids do nowadays, haha. Btw, I look forward to your replie(s) Ryan-aka-the-cruise-hook-up-expert.

Ohh and just a couple quick question. Since I'll be going at the end of summer, are there going to be many other kids on the cruise? Does anyone have any reviews on RCI? All I seem to read about is "Club 02" on Carnival Cruises...

Edit: Haha omg I'm so stupid. I got the cruise line wrong this entire time. Way to waste a week researching on a ship I'm not going on.

All cruises will always have kids and all cruises are good it doesnt matter what fleet it is. As for no grinding idk lol, thats all people do in clubs. You could always just chill on the coach with some ppl if you dont wanna grind. But thats pretty much the dancing everyone does.

The only dancing I have done is ballet, and I don't think that that'll be any help to me... First and last time I went to a teen dance was 2 years ago. It was actually one of the most traumatizing nights of my life (from what I remember at least, I tried to block out some of the details). Maybe it was especially shocking because I was younger? But at least after that experience, I know what to expect.

OK thanks for the graphic comment... I disagree. For those of u who don't know i've been involved in dance classes/companies since i was four and i think its proven i'm not gay so shut up before any of you get there. Girls in general are FAR more attracted to a guy who can do more than just grind. Any male can grind, its humping, one of the things inbedded in even caterpillars....not that complex yet some guys still screw it up.

If you don't want to grind, don't there are always people who just hang and dance without grinding. And most teen club Djs play the overplayed line dances.

Cha Cha Slide
Electric Boogie
Y.M.C.A.
Macarena
Sexy Slide (available on ships i've sailed on)
Cupid Shuffle
Cleveland Shuffle
Crank That
Follow The Leader
Who Let The Dogs Out
Hot Hot Hot
Swing An Engine
Dollar Dollar Wine

In fact, people have written on myspace before that some of their best club memories during the dance time is whenever I lead a typically corny dance. I have a HILARIOUS routine that goes along with the Y.M.C.A. and theres some fun to be had with the macarena as well. It doesn't have to be grinding from start to finish, in fact its pretty repetitive even with cuban girls (zach). Mabye its because i'm a DJ and experience it frequently but i mean u gotta have fun and be carefree. More to come, i dont have too much time right now but i'll be posting more later

Haha I kind of have to agree with you there. I find grinding a rather unattractive form of dance for the most part, especially when the guy happens to come off as too eager, if you know what I mean. I've had some pretty awful experiences with that. Maybe it's just my bad luck though - I guess I'll stop being such a prude and give it another shot...

i'm pretty much the same way. i don't drink or dance or party and stuff like that. although it may seem like thats what cruises are all about and everybody on board is like that think again.
in fact, once you make friends, at least in my case, you might not even hang out in the teen club.
on my last couple of cruises, none of my friends liked to dance and party so we all just hung around the ship instead and it was a lot of fun.

so don't think that just because your on a cruise mean you have to do stuff like that. there will be people in the same boat as you (no pun intended) who will want to do other stuff instead of dancing and stuff.
hope this makes you feel better!

I think that both you and Alex need to at least try and step out of your comfort zone, because when you do that you might find that it is much more enjoyable than not doing anything...

i'm not not doing anything. i make friends who usually share the same interests as me and we have fun. we may not be partying in the club and whatnot, but we find alternative ways to have fun. everybodys different.

Yea, well lets see.. i'm pretty shy until I get to know people. But there is something about cruises that just changes the way I act. I always love dancing though, anywhere hah but I dont drink. There are def. people who dont drink and do all that stuff on cruises.. and you just have to find those people. But just try to be a little more out there on your cruise, guys have actually told me they want to go on crusies with me just cause they see I'm more outgoing.

Btw, hooking up isnt everything. I never hooked up with anyone before my last cruise. Its just great to find someone you really like.

And I def. understand how strict asian parents are, half here wont let their kids spend the night at ppls houses.

I agree with Katie; hooking up definitely isn't everything, and you don't have to be on a cruise for it to happen...in fact, you might want to consider NOT doing it on a cruise if you want your first time to actually be significant and possibly turn into more than just a hookup (just a thought).
My first was not on a cruise, although i have shared many subsequent moments and relationships on cruises and on land since.

you're thinking too much i think

just be yourself and you'll have fun

and you'll be able to get away from parents, it's a big big big ship, with no way to get in contact with each other other than by calling the room or setting up in advance a time to meet
