Default So its official...

The CCL Fantasy will continue to sail from Mobile until it is put into drydock in sept. Hopefully everything will return to normal after that but if not I get to sail out of my home port....lol. This has got to be the biggest screwed up mess. People are asking anyone they can get a hold to just to see what they should do. Some sites say proceed to Mobile if you are driving, but if you are flying it says to keep your flight to New Orleans.. There are more than enough hotels and parking places here in Mobile to accomodate the people that drove here or flew in a day early. I received an email earlier today about the Carnival Fantasy from my TA stating that anyone on the ship before it drydocks to proceed to Mobile. At least they aren't leaving a day late like I did, but it still has got to be very stressful for passengers. So what do all of you think about all of this?

I dont think CCL is to blame.

I mean come on, out of nowhere you have to move the ship to a different port and organize a way to get two thousand people to a completely different city...

Its not their fault but they need to call the passengers on the future sailings and let them know whether to come straight to Mobile if they see fit to it or go straight to New Orleans. That is what the problem is at the moment. People are being told several different things and they are all going against each other. One set thing needs to be annouced so they will know what to do.

Out of curiosity, for those who were told to go to New Orleans, how long of a ride is it from there to Mobile? (I assume they have busses set up).

yea they do. its complimentary motorcoach transportation. it takes around 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get here from new orleans depending on the traffic in and out of both mobile and new orleans.

I think that Passengers should be compensated for their trouble, and I don't think it should come out of carnival's pocket but rather the person responsible for the screw up on the river.

I do think CARNIVAL should decide on 1 way of getting passengers to the ship. Either notify them and have them come to mobile or have them come to N.O. If they started now, then in 3 weeks, pre-booked air-fare and travel arrangements could be modified for all guests sailing from that point on.

well... my first thought is how much loosing the fantasy will devistate new orleans economy.....

second theres really nothing carnival can do about the situation but i believe for a "sper of the moment" type situation they handeled verry well. and the thing about goin to new orleans it this. if im not mistaken mobil doesent have a airport. if it does it is verry small so alot of comerical airways might not go there, so to get the passengers paying airfare into the city the ting to do is fly into NE and bus them over

just a thought Joe might be more knolodgeable on this situation dealing with the airlines

actually zach you are mistaken. seeing as i live in mobile i would know that we do have an airport, and last time i checked its not that much more expensive to change flights. go look it up on expedia the differences between new orleans then to here. not that much. but the situation has been handled by ccl very well. i give them credit for that. and as far as new orleans completely losing a ship altogether isnt going to happen. carnival was planning on moving the fantasy here anyways but not this soon. they will be getting another ship in new orleans its not like thats not going to be a port to sail out of.
