Default Gas Prices

It was a record $3.29 here 2 weeks ago. Thanks to hurricane "as*hole" its now $3.99-$4.25 here just because people were like "Oh My God A Hurricane Is Gonna Destroy The Refineries, which it clearly didn't"

Looking at around 3.72 here

For anyone feeling the crunch, mapquest is a great resource to find the cheapest gas nearby.

As of yesterday, I saw anywhere from $3.79 to $3.99 here in the Bronx. I think I saw a $4.01 or $4.09 over the weekend from the bus, after getting off the subway, but I was tired and wasn't really paying much attention.

This whole gas thing was caused by the stupid wether channel and other forms of media blowing the whole idea that gas was going to get so expensive way out of porportion;
everyone decided to listen to them and freak out for no reason.
The media always makes such a huge deal out of these stupid hurricanes;
In Florida we're just like w/e a little rain won't hurt anyone. :]

Actually, we're at the lowest point we've been in months. The current price reflects an over-speculation in oil buoyed by the latest hurricane.

Nobody is gonna run out of gas....ExonnMobile and BP would never let that happen. As the worlds largest processed oil providers (Exxonmobile and AmacoFuels) they dont want anyone not to have the opportunity to partake in the death of the ozone.

Even still, in places in the outer boroughs, like where I am in the Bronx, I gotta sit on a bus for, on a good day 30 minutes, to get to the nearest subway, then another 30 or so minutes on the local before I'm even in Manhattan at 125th where I can switch to an express. The busses run frequently enough, but can be just tedious sometimes.

The price you hear about doesn't get delivered for about 3 to 5 months. By the time it gets processed, it'll be a year. And companies aren't all that keen to give up on the oil they bought at 140 a barrel (which got delivered last month). Refineries in Texas shut down for Ike as well, so that causes a surplus of oil, but a lack of places that can refine it to gasoline.

edit: When I say it takes a year to process, I mean it takes about a year for it to actually get completely used up.

Yeah, for some reason NJ has always had among the lowest gas prices in the nation. My mom says that NJ has much lower taxes on gas than most other states, and aren't there refineries in New Jersey? (pretty close to Royal Caribbean's Cape Liberty terminal if I'm not mistaken).

I live in New Jersey, and yeah prices are usually lower then anywhere else. One reason is we don't have a gas tax like many other states. And yup there are a lot of refineries here which is good because it keeps our gas low.

This is really interesting:

http://bp2.blogger.com/_otfwl2zc6Qc/...h/gasprice.bmp

and the fact that it directly correlates with this:

http://bp0.blogger.com/_otfwl2zc6Qc/...0-h/gastax.bmp

we need to get rid of gas taxes...

The long ride on the local bus to the nearest subway (6) just keeps getting more and more tolerable, spending $20-$40 per month on a Metrocard, depending on how much I travel, with the alternative being $30-$40 per week on gas. And to not have to deal with traffic congestion once I'm on the train is just another bonus.
