Music in the Club

Yea i was wonderin if the music in Club 02 was any good? Is it all real mainstream and generic? I get a lot of new music first ( got underground connections) and i was wonderin if the DJ would let me play some of my songs??? DJ Carolina, you would probably be able to answer this one. But yea thanks.

From my experience I have found out that the Club O2 director can play ipods through the sound system if you bring one and ask him about it up front. The only thing is that only the "IPOD" brand actually fits into the system and no other imitator mp3's work (we even tried them to be sure with no luck).

Oh and is the music in Club 02 clean/edited?? ( i guess it would be).. But yea thanks i am definetely gonna ask the director about that..

I guess it would depend on who your director was but yeah i think the music would be the edited versions

Yea thats what i thought. But thats gonna be tough cause most of the real new songs dont have edited versions.

The Club O2 songs that the director has is all clean, but we played regular versions of songs when it was just people's ipods. The only thing is that we had to make sure it wasn't too many obvious words used, if they were just in the lyrics and weren't used a ton we could play it. Another thing is that if you are going to take your ipod to use, make a playlist of all the songs you want to dance to, because the ipods we had just had random songs and the stereo system wasn't right next to the dance floor so it took a while to change the songs.

From past experiences i found out that if you make cds before your cruise its a whole lot easier. When i went on my cruise last xmas i made around 4 cds to play in the club. And the teen director i think her name was Amber and she was real chill with playin the cds. And pretty much all of the songs were expliced and she didnt care so. And with an ipod from my experiences i found that when u plug it in, the song plays and everything but like sumtimes suring the song it wont play the lyrics, idk why it was weird so thats why i pretty much just bring cds into the club so the director can play them. And sum times the songs in the club arent rele that good so im pretty good at knowin all the new songs so i make cds.

That's really cool that you can play CD's too! I didn't know that. haha By the time we found out about playing our own music we were on the ship and didn't have anywhere to make a CD. How many cruises have you been on Kyle??

We convinced our 02 Director to have a rave with all techno/dance music now that was intense haha i'll take a rave over bumpin and grindin any day

Carnival is more likely to play your format than Royal Caribbean. Why? First of all, many of Carnival's ships still have the old CD systems installed with the older mixers and distributers. I've had varied experience with directors, some being fine with playing teen's music and others being solidly against it. With the exception of me (since i'm known throughout RCI's teen staff community) RCI directors rarely ever play other music than their own. Many of their ships have also converted to systems that do not even have CD capability readily available. I can assure you that most of the time the directors have that same music before you do even with underground connections. See, we as DJs have connections too, one of which is called Promo Only and they offer clean edits of music 6-8 months before its ever released, even before the marketing has been laid out for it. Royal Caribbean and Carnival both use the same company that I do (P.O.) and have a good selection of all types of music. Your really in for a treat if the ship (regardless of line) that you sail on has just come from Europe as they typically have an advanced collection of eurohouse music and the like. I'd sugguest making a couple playlists in iTunes or your favorite media format and uploading the pre-created lists. Then go to radio shack and purchase a cable called an RCA to 1/8" (costs like $6) and take it with you. Now, with a simple connection to the house mixer they can play anyboy's iPod. I did this for the Sovereign of the Seas and it has been in use ever since.

Sounds like he's got a connection to an "underground music pool" we call em PP's piracy pools. people who obtain illegal advance copies of new music by either A. friends who get access to promotional releases or B. Limewire and the like.

lofl? i guess if you think its that funny. The way i get new music is i way a couple close friends that get CD copies of the latest mixtapes that have not been released. They lend me the mixtapes and i rip the songs to my iPod. And other than that, its easy to get new music around hear just by word of mouth. (Cause i live in Downtown Atlanta and not in the suburbs).
But yea thanks everyone, and i will look into getting that cable. But would that be needed or is there just one of the plugs that goes directly into the ipod? (I am goin on Carnival Glory, built in 2003)

No ship i've ever been on has ever had an iPod Brand Specific connection. The glory is hardwired with only their computer being able to play digital media. Unless something has changed since i was onboard, you may be out of luck.

Depending on your director music may or may not be edited for language.
You can try hooking up an auxiliary cable to the ship's computer system for your iPod.
