Default Onboard Review- Grandeur of the Seas UPDATED 1/18 6PM

Well, either my expectations were too high or this is really turning out to be my worst experience at sea yet. The ship itsself is pretty decent. The food in the Windjammer and at the Carnival-style poolside grill is EXCELLENT but the food in the dining room left a lot to be desired. On the other hand, the solarium on this ship is the nicest and quietest of any ship i've ever been on and i'm thoroughly enjoying it. The cabin is ok but as with most RCI ships doesn't get very cool. The weather so far has "sucked" by most people's standards being that it's been mid-60s and cloudy so far to date. Personally, i'm ok with it. Last night we did get to go under a cable-suspension bridge somewhere in the channel and it was AMAZING since i happened to be on the open deck on the top when it happened and one of the antenna's cleared it by like less than a foot!

One weird thing they did on this ship is they changed the time last night. At 3:00am ships time fell back an hour to 2:00am, which makes no sense to me since all our ports are in the EST time zone.....i don't get it.

The cruise director is an idiot and the captain is weird. I'll try to tape some of his announcements. He's from Jersey USA but he speaks like...broken 3 words...pause...3 more words....pause but in perfect english!?!?!

The teen club is the biggest disappointment to me. For the first time in my cruise history i haven't met a single person, in the club, around the ship anything. The club itsself is dated but has a decent sound and light system that COULD make for some awesome evenings but i don't see that happening on this cruise. Its 6:22 EST 5:22 Ship time on day 2 and so far not a single person at any teen activity, on the pool decks or anything. Its weird. I did find that theres a large group of teens onboard, nearly 200 in the 15-17 group but in retrospect theres also a large group onboard with the Autism on the Seas program, which if u don't know what that is, its a special program for families with autistic members to cruise with special crew and such to watch after them and this ship has about 100 teens in it...which sucks...but i still dont know where all the people i saw yesterday before we sailed went or where the other 100 teens are. Right now i just can't wait to get home and i'm pissed that my last cruise as a teen is the worst of my career.

Thoughts Comments Etc. Welcomed Below I'll Check Back Periodically

thats too bad! hopefully you'll find at least one person around your age you'll be able to chill with - they have to come out of hiding at some point. but hey, at least you're on a ship, & i'm sure you'll make the best of it.
good luck & enjoy the rest of your time onboard!

See when you have under a couple hundred teens onboard and an autism program running simultaneously accounting for more than half of them, you are left with less than a hundred "potential" teens for the program. Take off the amount of teens that idle with their parents and the ones that are only there for the cruise itself and not the teen program and you're dwindling your number.
Another explanation is that you disembark the day before the presidential inauguration. I'm pretty sure anyone who is off school is headed to Washington this weekend to be there for it. So combine that with the offseason, the autism group, and the relative shortness of the cruise itself, and I think you have a pretty solid explanation for the tumbleweed blowing around the teen club.
As for the time change, I do recall Cozumel (your next port) falling an hour behind EST during the winter, although I could be wrong.
And that cable suspension bridge is always fun to go under. Went under it on the CCL Inspiration and the smokestack barely cleared. I do believe its an hour or two from the Port of Tampa.
Sorry your last cruise as a teen was ruined though. Hoping it gets better for you

The fact that its January has little to do with it and i doubt that many ppl are headed from FL to a packed Obama inaguration. Theres a large number of teens in the normal bracket and idk what the deal is. Thanks for the info about cozumel, didn't know that!

He's just a big Obama fan, and thinks most people who are of would go.

I would choose a cruise over that ANYDAY.
Obama is too hyped up, just because he's our first BI-RACIAL president.

See thing is that when you've got your entire school watching the inauguration on Tuesday instead of classes, and a good number of people you know who are your age and going to the inauguration it makes you start to wonder. I'm not that huge of an Obama fan; if I was, I would be writing this from Washington. I supported Obama not just because he is bi-racial, but because he had the clearly better policies and ideas on how to run this country. And because Sarah Palin is a joke of a politician.

As for the cruising aspect, lets make this point: There are a lot more teenagers in Washington right now than on boats. Enough said?

Edit: Thought I would also mention that our township is usually colored a very deep shade of red. 99% of all politicians in Radnor are Republican, including the School Board who approved Tuesday's inauguration events, so its not that the school is Democratic.

Default Keeps Getting Better

Well, i have to say that the more teens in washington is a weak argument given the limitations to a cruise ship. There are nearly 100 other teens onboard in my bracket, not i've taken into account the daddys girls/momma's boys, the weirdos, the geeks and the too cools, and theres still 25 that should show up. Howeverm day 3 has come and gone and no avail for the teen program which is a syame because the directors are really cool peeps and theyre set to make a real party happen. I digress...

So today just added onto the excitement of the Grandeur of the Seas. This morning we had a guy-line break loose from the dock and cause the gangway to become loose for a while till they fixed it, thus holding up traffic. All of the pools have been closed since yesterday for "maintenance" with welding going on in them and will be closed for the duration including the "Mardi Gras Pool Party tonight at 11". When we got off the ship this morning for my 1 and only port of call, the sky turned black, fell down and hurricane winds whacked us back onbord before ever reaching the city. Luckily, it slacked up about 1 and i decided to say "F" it and headed down to Carlos and Charlies...this is where the weather turned for the better. It started with a tip to the waiters that it was my b-day so they ALL crowded around me and shoved 5 sex on the beach shots 4 jello shooters and a yard of something down me, and then gathered all the girls in the place and made them all hump dance on me to "Candy Shop". Afterwards, i started talking to a group of the opposite sex from the Fantasy in port with us and for the next 2 hours we had a good time...i'll leave it at that. Then we made our way to Fat Tuesdays....Margaritaville and i had to say goodbye as they headed to their ship and i headed to senor frogs in my port.....the saga continues. After getting the b-day treatment from the froggers, they threw my ass in the pool and started a conga line and about that time the weather began to turn and i hauled ass back to the ship along with some other ppl from our dinner table.

Tonight i saw a pretty good magic show and lots of teens (esp. teen girls) in the theater which makes me wonder....where are they all day. must be hang with mom and dad weekend....anywho

Now we're headed homebound but the weather SUCKS and this ship is ROCKING and my once in a lifetime experience at C&C, Margaritaville, FTues and SF is catching up. Wish me luck and pray tomorrow is kickass.

Oh yeah and theres a divine possibility that i'll be on:

Monarch of the Seas

January 23, 2009- 3 night bahamas cruise

We'll see

thoughts, oppinions and comments welcomed, i'll check back around 2aM hopefully......

Well I'm glad you were able to have a little fun in your one and only port. Though I'm sure you would rather keep that party going back onboard with other teens. For those teen girls stalk the pool deck for a while. Maybe you will find some there.. and btw when is your bday?

Default Day 4- At Sea

Well here it is, 5:42 ships time also EST and we're about 90 nautical miles off the coast of florida. A bit of a recap from last night:

I decided that I might as well have some fun as I will in the big kid leagues so i figured i'd go watch The Quest in the South Pacific Lounge....Well I got there and a team of women (mid-40s) pulled me into a booth and explained that I was on their team. And I was like what the hell....So I competed and our team actually came in 2nd place. Normally, I would have NEVER done something like that but i was like screw it, im gonna have a good time and indeed it was awesome. From getting I Love Dan drawn on my forehead (dan= cruise director), to being stripped of my pants and shirt and being sent out into the open it was fun! Afterwards, i headed up to the deck party which was just as fun, as I took stage with about 6 other people + the CD's staff and ended up on the mic pulling half the ship onto the floor as well. It was a great time and i seriously had no inhibitions at that point. Best night of the cruise and while somewhat mediocre it was still a good laugh, though not as good as what i saw playing in the centrum this morning on the big screen (Cruise in Review trailer).

This morning, i headed out to the pool deck early to catch some rays and smelled an unfamiliar scent onboard a ship- charcoal. They had an open pit barbeque going on the pool deck roasting all kinds of tasty animals for lunch. Very cool +1 Grandeur. Several of the women from the team saw me and waved but the big smile came when a lady i didn't even know came up and was like "Weren't u the guy on the pool deck last night?" and I'm thinking....weird but "yes I was" and she's like our group had a TON of fun thanks to you, by the way these are my nieces, Katelyn and Ashley......i won't go into detail but she was gung ho that we get acquainted and we'll just say their family genes must be golden cuz.....*wipes sweat from forehead* and so i spent the better part of the afternoon chilling on deck in the midst of their group getting to know their more recent generation and Its my expectation that this evening will be fun to say the least given that the Crown & Anchor is open to all and both girls A. think i'm "hottt (according to the older one) and B. are both dancers back home...It should be a good night to cap the cruise off. On top of that the casino wants to send us next weekend on the Monarch in the Royal Suite in celebration of my actual 18th which is Sunday Jan. 25!
