So when is everyone who was Class of '09 moving in?
August 19 for me, but starting the trek the day before since my parents are saying goodbye at the threshold to the house and I can't drive a full 8 hours straight.
How long is the drive for everyone else?
Who else is feeling an overload of excitement?

I leave for college August 26, but move in day isn't until August 27. But my mom and I both agreed we weren't going to drive our cars from Jersey to Maryland which is a 4 hour drive the morning of move in. Plus I have to get my car registered in Maryland so I can park there during the school year and set up a bank account since Maryland doesn't have the same bank I usually use...its annoying.
I'm so excited you don't even know! I have all my stuff for my dorm and its basically all packed and ready to get put into the cars! I mean I still have like 23 days or something but I just want to move into my dorm and meet all of my cluster mates =)

I move in Sunday, Aug 30th to start classes on Tuesday, Sept 1, to start my 3rd year of college
The drive is anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours, depending on traffic. The lesser of two evils is to live on campus than to deal with Bronx traffic. I'm commuting to summer classes at my college, which I just finished for the day and have leave right now to go home.

See, you guys have easy drives. I had to bring whatever I was taking from home down here to Boca (I'm in Florida for the summer) and then I have to take it up to FSU. I figured moving in on an 8 hour drive was a little easier than moving in on an 18 hour one.
As for bank accounts, thanks to having to have one for financial aid, I now have three checking accounts (I had two because the bank I had up north wasn't available here in Florida, and we vacation down here a lot).
Devon, what type of dorm are you in?

Traffic is always bad in the Bronx, its so frustrating. Do you have summer classes everyday?
Thats true Mike...are you driving the 8 hours and moving in on the same day? I'm switching some of my money into M&T which is the name on the Baltimore Ravens stadium, my roommate uses them and hasn't had problems. Plus the only bank Jersey and Maryland have in common is Bank of America...and my mom refuses to use.
I'm in a cluster dorm...4 clusters on each floor. Each cluster has 5 dorm rooms, with 2 people per room...and so 10 people share 1 bathroom. Its co-ed by cluster. And then there is usually an RA room but because one of the dorm buildings is closed for renovation a lot of the RA rooms are becoming triples. But I prefered the cluster style compared to the regular style of the entire floor sharing a bathroom. Plus at my college clusters are what most people want..so I was lucky to get into one of the dorms that is cluster style. Do you have those at FSU/what kind of dorm are you in?

I'm not moving anywhere just like last year! I absolutely love it! It takes me 15 minutes to get to school and I can keep my job. I've been in summer classes since May 27th and I'm very glad for it to be over this Thursday. I certainly deserve my cruise and will probably go crazy (as always)

Devon, I'll probably split the trip in two stopping over in Tampa (halfway there).
I don't think we have clusters. It was either suite-style or community or apartment (though the apartment style are usually only up for grabs by the grads and/or married couples). There are doubles, triples, and quads for suite style I believe, and there are also rooms with a bathroom which would make it 2, 3, or 4 depending on the type of room to a bathroom.
I chose suite style so basically 4 to a bathroom, two to a room. Community is a whole floor to I think 2 or 3 bathrooms. Wasn't really interested in it, so I didn't look into that.

Ohhhh okay! Hmm interesting, I don't have suite styles isn't an option for freshman at my college. You're so lucky..only 4 to a bathroom! Do your suites have like a living room to? Because the suites in my college have that and a kitchen...
So Mike when do classes actually start for you?

For freshman at my school, they live in the towers (10 floors each and there are 2 of them) or a suite thing. If you live in the towers (most social), you share one bathroom (3 stalls and about 3 showers) with all the girls on the floor and same applies for the guys. The floors are co-ed and everyone has 1 roomate except each floor has 1 quad (3 roomies). If you live in the suite thing, your room is TINY and you share a bathroom with 6 other people. All the freshman get assigned to where they live so they have absolutely NO say or choice in where they live. They also have no choice or say in their roomate. They take a short survey and they are paired up by a certain freshman class that you have to take. All the honors kids are on the same floors in the suite style thing... I think... I never really hung out over there hahah The system seems to work very well and people don't really have any issues.
I'm planning on commuting this year again (soph. year) then getting a townhouse on campus with 3 of my friends. Best of both worlds!!!

Our suites don't have a living room, but we do have one kitchen per floor should you decide to get creative and cook. But, each room is allowed a microwave and comes with a minifridge as well as a desk, bed, and sink.
Convocation is on August 23rd and classes actually start on the 24th.
How about you? Oh and more importantly, what does yours (and everyone else's) schedule look like?

Oh cool..its so weird how things are totally different at colleges. Thats exciting.
My classes actually start the 31...but from the 27-30 we have a list of events we have to attend since only the freshman are there, everyone else moves in on the 30th.
My schedule is:
English 103 - Monday/Wednesday/Friday @ 11-11:50
Bio 101 - Monday @ 3 - 3:50
Bio 101 Lab - Wednesday @ 4 - 5:40
Sociology 101 - Tuesday/Thursday @ 8am-9:15
Math 130 - Tuesday/Thursday @12:30 -1:45.
I'm really happy with my schedule, most people aren't happy with theirs because they have early and really late classes.

I'm a double major so I have no say in what I take and when I take it. It's really competitive to get into the classes I need, so many people in my major have to go an extra semester or two! We are required to take 4 classes which equals 16 credits. I wanted to take a 5th class so I had to get approved. I would've had Wednesday off which is the most common day to have off but I took the 5th class... I know... I'm crazy! Unlike most students, I pick my classes according to the professors and do major searching regarding the best professors for each class. I would rather have an amazing professor at a horrible time and I enjoy going to class than having a good schedule with professors that are really bad. That's just what works for me!
INTRODUCTION TO METEOROLOGY (12:30 pm- 1:50 pm)
INTRODUCTION TO METEOROLOGY LAB (2:00 pm- 3:50 pm)

My summer classes, which I have one more week left of, are both every day Monday-Thursday.
Electrical Engineering 1 - 9:00am-11:15am
Dynamics - 12:30pm-2:45pm
My fall classes includes things such as, Differential Equations, Electrical Engineering 2 (includes a lab), Thermodynamics, Strength of Materials, Ship Form and Graphics (includes a lab), and Ship Statics. 19 credits total.

Mike, I wouldn't be happy with calculus either. Luckily my math class is what i've learned between 1st and 8th grade. I have to learn how to teach it to kids easily, so basically dumb everything down. I was so happy when I learned what it was, it shouldn't be hard. Do you have general requirements you have to complete?
And Tim, what is your major? I hate differential equations, is it really a class just on them??? You're classes seem soooo hard.
luv2cruise - I was going to do a double major but the advisor told me to skip it because its not worth it. So instead i'll major in elementary ed and minor in conflict analysis &dispute resolution. And exploring amish culture actually sounds really interesting.

I don't have a choice about double majoring or not! It sucks big time! I feel like I'm majoring in 4 things (elementary education, math, science and technology)! I'm obsessed with the Amish! It is a freshman class but the prof. had an emergency so I couldn't take the class. I got switched into The Impact of Globalization and was really pissed off. I LOVED the prof. and we emailed the entire summer before class! I wrote to him and the dean of the freshman seminar program and he let me in and said that this is the first and only time it will ever happen! I feel very special I can't wait to walk into the room and have all the freshman be like "who is she" and "how does she know him"! He also wants me to help him teach the class since I know a lot about the Amish already!!! He's awesome and I really enjoy talking to him... he's in the school of education which is definitely a plus too
I just took structures and algorithms for educators which is the math we will have to teach and it's a lot harder than you think.. at least at my school! It was like SAT math where the questions are a little tricky. There were a lot of kids in the class who had taken the class over since you need to get at least a C+ to basically pass. I made lots of stupid mistakes on the tests and it seemed like I wasn't the only one! I will have to take another class which teaches me how to teach the stuff I just learned. You'll have to keep me posted on your classes!

Devon, my major is Naval Architecture. My goal is to get into cruise ship design and construction when I graduate, and that'll probably land me in Europe where they're all built. It's considered an engineering major, I think the only engineering major that exists without the word "engineering" in the name, and so my classes are very hard. And yes, differential equations is its own class, and it follows calculus 1, 2, and 3 so it's going to be very tough.
What major is everybody?
