Default Disney

To make a long story short, my neighbor's mom works for disney, and said she'll be able to get us a really good deal on a cruise. If the price is right, we'll be joining our neighbors for five days on Disney Wonder out of Port Canaveral in late June. It's go to Key West, their private island, and Nassau. We absolutely love the itinerary since we've never been to Key West.

So, has anybody been on a Disney cruise? Did you like it? Will I be totally out of place being seventeen? Little kids aren't really my thing
Any other info would be greatly appreciated !

Disney is a unique line in many ways. I think that different people find value in things on Disney for various different reasons.

The Positive:

~ Disney has created beautiful ships: they're grand in style and design and emulate subdued class from the moment you step onboard.
~ The service on Disney is awesome-right in line with Disney's "Project Mainstreet" initiative found in their parks, resorts and at sea.
~ Their food is top notch- better than any other ship I've been on and certainly on-par with many land-based restaurants.
~ The entertainment is world class- nuff said.

The Negative:
~ Mickey Overload- it's everywhere, you can't escape it, and it is the same crap over and over.
~ Children, Children, Everywhere- Disney's ships are for families and that's evident everywhere you look. The whole ship is kid-friendly, so don't expect any exciting deck parties or bangin nightlife. The ship is pretty much shut down by 11-12 and the teen clubs, while very cool, have some of the strictest rules at sea regarding hum....dancing and conduct.
~ Different Crowd- Many of the people that travel Disney are first time cruisers. There are few people who return because the awe of disney is gone once you experience it. Unlike other lines who update their experience every couple years with new ships or just new shows onboard; Disney keeps things the same because of their high client turnover rate. Magic Kingdom has changed almost none since it opened with the exception of a few rides mainly due to mechanical aging and wear. The ships are a grand experience, but once you've done it, most people don't want to shell out the money to experience the same thing again at inflated "disney prices". This provides for a very unique experience as many guests are first timers and those of us who are accustomed to cruising may become annoyed with the "awestruck" attitude of many guests (for instance the muster drill takes FOREVER).

Overall, if you can go for cheap, do it. A cruise is a cruise at it's rawest minimum and no matter if you're on Carnival- having a slu**y good time, Royal Caribbean- getting out there and trying new things or Disney and taking a trip back to childhood- it all relies on the group and the kinds of people you meet and interact with.

Thanks Ryan!
That's exactly what I needed to hear. I've always wanted to go on a Disney cruise since the first time I saw one leave port and play 'When You Wish Upon A Star' instead of the typical loud horn blast. The ships are really something to see from the outside, and if the travel channel does them any justice the interior looks just as nice. I haven't been to Disney (the park) since I was two or three, so I think it would be a blast to have a Disney experience that I will clearly remember. I'm really hoping we're able to go!

Yeah...the horn is by far the COOLEST part of the trip! Their sail-away deck party is pretty awesome as well and the "Pirates in the Caribbean" mid-cruise deck party is out of this world.
