I think we should be able to tip who & how much we want. How many people will ask to have the tips lowered if they are not happy with the service.

Re: tipping
We've always given the suggested tip or more. But to demand it in advance to cover up the ships inability to pay decent wages is beyond me. Carnival can kiss goodby to my family unless this idea is removed.

Re: tipping
Just to keep things straight here. Its not just Carnival who have begun this practice. NCL, and Princess both have variations. And if I recall, I heard RCI is experimenting with it as well.
If the reaction on the ships is as opposed as we're seeing here, it'll be interesting to see if any of them back of on this issue.

Re: tipping
I was on a Princes cruise the week the ship went cashless and I remember how sour many of the Bar tenders were because they felt they were taking a cut in pay since most people didn't pick up their change from a beer or well drink. At the time a beer was $2.25 and most people would lay out $3. But as time has passed both they and we (I) have become used to the 15% add on and though many might resent being forced to tip I see many others who will leave cash tips for their favoret bartender. I guess we will have to wait and see. Also the policy on Carnival and NCL includes the cabin stewart in the $9.75 as I understand it. I will find out for sure on the 28 when we sail on the Elation.
