Default tipping

I am a first time cruiser - March 11-17 on Explorer of
the Seas. I know you tip waiter, room steward, etc. at the
end of the trip, but how? Do you get an envelope & hand it to them the last night? What about waiters in the other restaurants, bars, poolside, etc.? regular 15-20% at the time of service?

Some cruise lines are letting you put the tip on your bill and give you a voucher. I do not know if they do this on the Explorer of the Seas. You can tell them not to do this. Most still put envelopes in your room the last day and you put what you want in the envelopes and present it to the proper person. A 15% tip is automatically added to your bill for bar drinks and such and they pay them out to the wait staff. You can also change this amount if you want. Hope this helps some.

Thanks- What about the cafes(like Johnny Rockets, Island Grill, etc.)? Is 15% auto added to sit down eating places not in the main dining room?

On the topic of tipping, I was wondering if you tip the person who brings food ordered through room service?
Thanks for your help

Yes Pat, there will be envelopes for you to stuff with cash and then disperse on the last evening of the cruise.

I alway make my own envelpes before leaving home and then I know I have the minimum amounts already stashed in cash I reach a cash shortage situation.

At the proper time I pull out my envelopes and make adjustments to the amounts, if needed, based on the actual service I received.

Re:Holland America "tipping not required"

Does this mean that their wait staff and cabin stewards are paid more to negate the need to tip or are these service people being cheated of earnings they depend on?

How amazing that I was so worried about tipping. When the cruise was over I was delighted to tip the waiter, assistant waiter and the cabin staff, because their work was exemplary.
