Tipping Old Way under Auto Tipping System

Much has been discussed about tips being automatically charged to your ship account. Alternatively, one can also, at the beginning of the trip, go to the pursers' desk to ask for the auto charge be removed and tipping the old way. So how would the servers, especially the room steward/ess know if I am tipping the old way or "new way", as room steward/esses don't pool their tips together (or do they)? I saw some cruisers in their reviews stating that (in the "old days", that is, before this auto charge is introduced), they would give half or less than half of the tip at the beginning of the cruise and that "has worked magic throughout the entire cruises". I wonder how that tactic is going to work now. Thanks for any opinion on the topic.

I was wondering about this too. How would the waitstaff and room steward know if you are autotipping or just stiffing them on the tip? Do you just put a little note in the tip envelope saying that your tips are on my sign and sail at this amount or what?

Maybe I don't understand the question, but this is how I see things -

They don't know if you are autotipping and that should not effect the service. I was just on NCL where they use autotipping and no one there knew that I was going to adjust my tips at the end of the cruise. Why should they, and why should that effect how they treat me. One of the nicest people on the ship was a bartender at the Java Cafe where I rarely went, she did not get her auto 15% (when you purchase a drink) since I was never there but she was always friendly, helpful etc.
