Default Tipping for Paid Transportation

Hi cruisers,

I just returned from a carnival cruise. I paid for transportation from and to airport to ship port. On the voucher it was stated that "gratuity to driver included". However, once on the bus to the port and back to the airport, the driver without any shame stated he expected to be tipped....I found this in very bad taste.

Next time, use a colored highlighter pen over the words "Gratuity Included" and point this out to the driver as you hand him your voucher!

he probably figured that you wouldn't read your voucher about the gratutity. Very rude indeed.

Thanks Ladies for your response. I will definitely do that if it happens again on my next cruise next month. I also thought of complaining to Carnival....If it does happen again, I will definitely do it. It is the rudeness that bothered me so much....

He can expect anything he wants. I think some people forget it's a gratuity not a requirement. I feel a gratutity is based on level of service not guilt or a demand.

Our driver told us that Carnival only gives the driver 50 cents per person. After he has put all of the heavy over packed bags in the bottom of the bus in the HOT Florida weather, I dont see anything wrong with a little extra. You are expected to give the porters a dollar a bag. I think the bus driver deserves that also.

If they handle your luggage you might want to give something extra, but Just trying to get something extra......sorry Charlie!
