pooling tips?

I've heard the question asked, but not answered: if you tip "extra" is it pooled?

I was advised by an experienced cruiser to tip an extra $5 on the first day of the cruise to the cabin steward and dining stewards. He said you would receive much better service. I know the automatically charged tips are pooled, but are these "extra" tips also added to the pool?

You need to check with your individual waiter about the pooling of tips. We were told by our waiter on the Horizon that what he was tipped he got to keep. He did not know of other ships and their policies.
