I don't like the idea of having the tips charged to my S&S because I like to give the money personally, but I do like the idea of getting it out of the way at the beginning of the cruise. How do you leave the suggested tip upfront and say any additional will be based on exceptional performance. I have done this in restaurants, but I have usually been at a table for two and was able to handle it discreetly. As I feel tipping is a personal and private matter, how do I do this at a table with 9 other people? Can I request the envelopes on the first day of the cruise, or is there another discreet, yet personal way I can do it. I would appreciate comments from people who have a similar mindset or a cruise employee.
Btw, I have no problem with the room steward since this is done in my cabin.
At dinner the first night, be the last one to leave the table and present it to the waiter and assistant waiter as they are finishing up your table. Hand them each a cash amount and let them know you will tip them again at the end of the cruise.
I always found a discrete moment to tip waiters and cabin service in the beginning. And I did not make any remark for the future ("If you....then I wil..."). I think they understand.
Hopefully they keep these3 extras for themselves.
