Default Are $2 bills and $1 coins really worth it or a hindrance

I asked this on the Celebrity board, but I thought I would ask here:

We leave for Alaska in two weeks for our first cruise. We were wondering if $2 bills and $1 coins are really worth it for being remembered? Everywhere I go, there seems to be no place in the register to store either. Can I just bring singles and be ok?

As far as the porters in Vancouver are concerned will it be ok to tip in leftover CDN dollars should we have any after our three day stay in Vancouver?

Even in the states, people look askance at SB Anthonys and Sachageweas.....the post office stamp machines provide them as change.

If you tip porters in the US with CN dollars, they may not appreciate it, but doesn't the exchange favor them?

Of course you can tip the porters at Canada Place with Canadian dollars, they are Canadians in Canada and while the American dollar is favored because of the exchange it is PERFECTLY acceptable to use Canadain money.

I am Canadian!!!!!
