tipping for continental breakfast

iI took a cruise on caribbean princess nov.13-20. Each morning my husband and I ordered the room service breakfast and ate on the balcony. I was not fully aware of the tipping protocol. When the delivery person handed me the slip to sign, I signed my name , the time of delivery, and the 2 $ I was giving as a tip. I also paid the person the 2$ in cash. I figured the signing of the 2$ was just as a record for the delivery person to take back to the manager. As I found out at the end of the cruise, my account was also charged 2$ each morning . So each room service cost me 4$ instead of 2$. I will never sign the gratuity slip again for any amt.--I learned the hard/expensive way!

Interesting. I did not know that on Princess. ON CCL you sigh a paper which basically just says that you received what you ordered and you tipped whatever you wanted, usually a couple bucks. There was no auto-tip invoilved. Guess you need to keep you eye on what you sign now.

Learn a lesson.. Use auto-tip.. Don't give extra cash.. Don't use the envelops.. Don't seek out the waiter at the end of the trip.. Don't add to the auto-tip and don't delet from the auto-tip.. Just pay the $10.00 per day "service charge" and enjoy your cruise hassle free..OM

Same experience as Jim on Carnival. Signed a slip when we received room service and tipped $1-$2 depending on how much we ordered. I do know that if you order drinks at the bar, pool, etc. the tip is automatically added so no need to tip unless you want extra strong drinks or extra fast service next time.
