Is Carnivals tips already added on your cruise card.?? I read somewhere that it was. Only have cruised on RCCL and they have always left envelopes. I like to tip a little bit before the cruise starts. Seems I do get better service. How do I go about taking it off the card. ??Thanks for any info!
I just read my "welcome aboard" packet from carnival.
Pg. 13 "What is not included in my fare" states that gratuities are not included.
As of today, gratuities are still left up to you. But there is talk of them becoming mandatory soon, possibly by all of the cruise lines.
All the Carnival cruises I have been on, the tips have been added to your sail and sign card. If you do not want to tip that way, it is up to you to go to the Purser's Desk, and ask that they be removed. We prefer to hand the cash to the waiters, and room steward. so we have had this done each time. No problems at the Purser's Desk.
Clem.......are you sure? I just read this. I have only sailed before on RCCL so it could be I am understanding this wrong, but it is listed under " what is not included in the fare".
I too would rather pay this in person if could be. Thanks for the 411.......
momx4: If they add the tips to your "sail and sign card", then technically is is not included in the fare...you already paid for that (your tickets). If they do add them to your card, you can ask to have them removed and still tip personally.

Thanks everyone, just confused now what the best way to go! I always liked giving something at the beginning of the cruise then tip more at the end. Last cruise I never even met the head waiter, but our waiter and asst. was great! Above and beyond, and needless to say, I handed them extra!!!! What's the best way to go! Don't want them to think I am not going to tip and then get bad service. Thanks for the info!

Sunlover: The old days of tipping as you know it are going away.. Just put the tip on your S&S card and enjoy your trip.. Don't pre-tip or post tip. Just put it on your card.. OM
Let me try to add something to this. We just got off the ecstasy. My TA asked if I wanted to go ahead and add tips to the price of my trip. I told her yes, because I didn't want to worry about doing the right thing all during the trip. She told me that if i didn't wnat to do it then, I could wait and it would come out of my S&S card. Once on the ship, we gave one's and fives to people that went out of there way for us. The only envelope I saw was the last night and it was for the diningroom staff. it was not manatory, but we did put a little in it, and thanked the staff. We were lucky i guess, because everyone was very nice. They cleaned only when we were out of the cabin, they brought us what we wanted, room service, etc. It made me feel good to know that I could show our appreciation. If the service had been bad, then I could have gone and had it taken off, I guess, but thankfully I didn't have to worry about it. The problem with these types of conversations are that newbies get confused, and they are the ones wanting to learn all they can.
Luanne, the envelope you saw on the last night wasn't for the dining room staff - it was for the Maitre d only.

Yes, that envelope was for the maitre'd. I think they might have handed out other envelopes for people who took their tips off the sail and sign and tipped in cash (as I saw some tablemates giving an envelope to our waitstaff too).
I enjoyed tiping. I saw no reason not to. What I was happy about, was that I didn't have to worry about always having cash to tip. I had put the tips on our cruise price, so it was paid for, before we traveled, and then we kept one's and five's in our room for extra tipping. I have read where these people make a lot, and that these people don't make hardly anything, but i wanted to leave the ship knowing that I had done the right thing.

260 Days till sail on Carnival Liberty
Carnival gives you the option to either have it on the sail and sign card or pay them your self. But you do have to go and request it to be taken off the card. I have cruised on Carnival counting the one I am going it Jan 2006 will be 6 times and have never had a problem of them not taking it off the Sail/Sign card.
