Tipping when in port
This board has been helpful in sorting out tips while on the ship, but what about when you leave the ship and visit the islands? We are traveling to the southern Caribbean this spring. What are the guidelines for appropriate tips for taxis, beach support and excursion personnel? Is it generally the same throughout the Caribbean or is each port different?
Taxis- unless they handle baggage or take us on a tour we do not tip, we pay the fare and that's it.
Excursions - its up to your discretion. If the tour operator is very helpful, informative, interacts with the passengers and doesn't sound like he/she is reading from a script, then we usually tip- again the amount depends upon the level of service.
If you order a drink on the beach, and its delivered to your chair and gratuity isn't included in your tab, then definatley tip the appropriate 15%.
I have to say - I don't understand the tipping for excursions.
I don't tip at an amusement park for the experience.
I would think that my $109 per person charge (or whatever it may be) covers services rendered.
